Most pimples are more annoying than anything. Everyone has had a pimple pop up before an important picture or a date.
A few simple steps will help keep your acne to a minimum but remember hormonal fluctuations may cause acne and there is not much you can do with that unless you want to fork over big bucks for treatments.
Excess oil is also a factor that may lead to acne. Stress levels in some people may cause a bout of acne. Wearing heavy makeup and face creams filled with oil can also lead to acne. If you can't live without your makeup just be sure to cleanse your face thoroughly and give yourself a break from cosmetics now and then.
Eating a very healthy diet is not only good for your body but for your skin as well. Stick to healthy fruits, vegetables and lean proteins without heavy doses of oil.
If you do have a break out we all know now not to mess with it. Do not pick, prod or pop the offending blemish as this will only spread the bacteria and may create more. Use only an anti-zit medication on it and don't touch it no matter how bad it hurts. You will only irritate it more.
For non-irritating results only use an anti-zit product twice a day. Using a product more can irritate and dry out your skin giving you another problem to deal with. If your face does become too dry choose a moisturizer that is oil-free and designed for sensitive skin.
It is always best to be gentle when washing your face. Do not scrub. This does not prevent a breakout. Only use lukewarn water to wash your face. Hot water is too damaging and drying for your skin. Only use a gentle, cleansing soap to wash your face. Look at the label and check to make sure it is designed for sensitive and oily skin. Use twice a day for the maximum benefit.
If you have chronic acne do not use any exfoliating products unless they are designed for oily and acne-prone skin. Most exfoliating products will damage the top layer of the pimple and may cause bacteria to spread creating more breakouts.
Only use products that are non-oily. This included moisturizers, cleansers and even hair care products. Choose only oil-free makeup to use on your face. Powder blushes and eyeshadows should be used instead of the creamed varieties and loose powders are a better alternative than hard-packed compacts.
If you are wanting to go to a spa or a salon for a facial you should consult your dermatologist first. Some dermatologists will provide facials in their offices which is a better alternative as their products will help acne-prone skin. Some spa and salon facials are too harsh for acne-prone skin.
Be aware of how you treat your face during the day. Keep your hands away from your face. If you use a telephone at work try to keep the phone from touching your face.
Excess oil may become a problem and you should try to eliminate the excess by using oil-blotting papers throughout the day. Pieces of coffee filters work too if you are needing something handy. This doesn't help acne but will reduce the shine on your face from the excess oil.
Always use sunscreen whenever you go out. Some people may find that overexposure to sun will worsen an acne problem. Choose one designed for sensitive skin and oil-free.
Keep your diet in check. Stay away from excess salt and greasy foods, Some people will find certain foods will lead to breakouts. Be aware of what you eat and how your skin reacts to it.
Not only do you need to keep your face clean but you should clean your hair as well quite regularly. Oils will build up in the hair and can transfer to your face. Keep your hair away from your face as much as possible so the oil is less likely to rub off on your skin.
Most people do not need to see a dermatologist but it depends on how each individual feels. If you feel so overwhelmed and embarrassed it might be a good idea to seek medical treatment.
If you have tried several different treatments and you are still suffering three to four months after starting the medicine, you might want to consult a dermatologist.
A dermatologist can prescribe medications that are not sold over the counter. Some of these medicines are topical and some are taken orally. Dermatologists can also treat the severe cases before you become permanently scarred.
As with any medical treatments there may be other side effects. Stopping acne is not a quick task. It can take many different treatments before they find the one that works for you.
