Basics of Life

Where Did it Go?

Lodie Quezada
Good morning children, it's time to pray, then we will do our chores and you can go outside and play.

Pray, breakfast, chores and play, such a simple life, why did it have to go away.

While mother was cooking breakfast, we would do our chores, make the beds, mop the floors, and wipe the doors. Oh, at that time, it did not seem like much fun, but we did not talk back, we held our breath and said hmmmm.

The basics of life, where did it go, when you could walk to the store, everybody work together then, our neighbors were our family, we always wanted to go to the store, the penny candy was sooo good.

We enjoyed the hayrides, and horse shoe throws, apple picking, egg race, and the sack race, it did not matter who won, all that mattered is we were having fun.

Grandma made blueberry, apple, and peach pies, grandpa chopped the wood to put on the smoke pit to slow cook the pig, all of our aunties and came to help grandma finish the fixings', our uncles came to help grandpa turn that pig, we had all this food and a little old kitchen.

The basics of life, was work hard, eat good, love a lot, spend a little, and get back to the basics of life.

No heartache, no headache, no anger no pain, just good ole, old fashion living, that we need to regain.
