Basketball Cake & Basketball Cupcake Designs
Easy Basketball Cakes for March Madness, End of the Season Parties or Birthday Parties
At the end of the youth basketball season, these young athletes are often treated to an end of season party. Parents will be asked to sign up for party snacks and drinks. Will you be the one to sign up to bring the cupcakes? Basketball cupcakes are a super easy score.
There are two cute ideas for basketball party cupcakes. The first is simply to turn cupcakes into basketballs.
Basketball cupcakes:
-Follow your favorite cupcake recipe or box cake directions.
-Choose an icing that is white or light yellow in color like cream cheese or lemon.
-Add red and yellow coloring to the frosting to make it bright orange like a basketball.
Now here comes the fun part, creating the black lines. You can do this a variety of ways.
-Whatever you use you will create a line down the middle of the cupcake and a curved line on either side to create the look of the lines on the basketball.
-One idea is to use black writing frosting. Another tasty idea is to create the lines with small chocolate chips. If you use chocolate chips simply "draw" the lines with a toothpick and add the mini-chocolate chips
Basketball uniform number cupcakes:
An alternative to turning the cupcakes into basketballs for the team party is to make "uniform" cakes decorated with the team's colors. Get a list of all jersey numbers and create a personalized cupcake for each player by writing their uniform number on the cupcakes with writing icing in the team colors. Kids really enjoy finding their own personal cupcakes.
Need to make a basketball cake instead? Whether you're hosting a March madness party or a sports birthday party, a basketball cake is a winner for the guests and a slam-dunk for the hostess.
Basketball cakes:
-Create a round layer cake using your favorite cake recipe or box cake directions.
-Purchase a light colored frosting such as vanilla, cream cheese or lemon.
-Add drops of yellow and red food coloring to turn the frosting orange like a basketball and ice the cake as usual.
-Now you can create the three black lines (one down the middle and one curved on either side) to complete the look of the basketball.
-Like with the basketball cupcakes you can use black writing frosting or chocolate chips but for a cake use regular chocolate chips instead of minis.
-Another idea that works well for the basketball cakes is to use black licorice sticks to create the lines.
James Naismith invented the sport of basketball but you can easily invent these fun basketball cakes or basketball cupcakes for your own basketball celebration.
