Basketball Conditioning Tips: Three Exercises to Improve Your Upper Back Strength

Having a strong upper back is very helpful for basketball players and is often included in their basketball conditioning. However, a lot of basketball players do not know very many exercises that they can do to help improve the strength of their upper back. Three exercises that players can do during their conditioning is pull ups, rows, and pullovers. These exercises all work to increase the strength of the upper back. However, it is important that you always use proper form and a spotter when necessary in order to help prevent injury.

One exercise that can help improve upper back strength for basketball conditioning is the common pull up. A pull up is when a person stands below an elevated, horizontal bar and grabs onto it. Then, without using any kind of swinging motion, the person pulls himself or herself up. This can be a very challenging exercise, and you may not be able to do that many of them in a row right away. However, by working out consistently you should see an improvement in the number that you can do overtime. This is a very good workout to help improve the strength of your upper back.

Another exercise they need is help improve your upper back strength for your basketball conditioning is known as the row. The row is an exercise that simulates the same motion used to row a boat. Typically, rows are done using dumbbells. There are number of different variations of the row exercise, they should ask a trainer at the gym to show you all of the options. One very important thing when doing dumbbell rows is to make sure that you are using the proper weight. Don't try to lift too much, or there's a good chance that you may cause an injury.

Yet another exercise that can help improve upper back strength when you are doing your basketball conditioning is known as the pull over. The basic motion of a pull over is swinging your arms in the same manner as you would swing an axe in arcing motion. This can be a difficult exercise to do for some people, so they should talk to a qualified trainer before attempting to perform it.
