Bass Fishing Techniques

Bass will feed on worms, crustaceans and other fish. Bass really love to prey on the smaller fish. They are challenging and tough which makes them a lot of fun to catch. You can find bass in most streams, lakes and ponds in North America. There are a lot of species of bass and the largemouth bass is one of the most sought after.

In any tackle store you will see a large variety of lures and most of them are the bass lures. You see TV shows involving bass fishing as well as big bass fishing tournaments, especially the largemouth bass. Below are some tips to help master the art of bass fishing.

For bass fishing in the springtime use the pig and jig lures. Use a weedless crawfish colored jig with living rubber skirts. Then add a crawdad colored #11 pork rind. This combination can get you some big springtime bass hauls You can position your boat about 20-30 feet off the shore, then cast into the shore, slowly working the lure in. When you feel a "tapping", then set the hook. Since most of the fish are in shallow water or on beds, this lure appears as a large crawdad when you work it along the bottom.

Use spinner baits later in the spring and early summer. You can use a chartreuse colored spinner with a living rubber skirt (this will look like a lot of colored rubber bands). You can skirt this line around lily pads, weeds, around trees, on the surface, down drop offs and most any area. The single bladed models seem the easiest to use. Bass go crazy for this lure and hit it with a vengeance with all of their power. Only occasionally will you get only a tap.

Use crank baits in the fall and late summer. In hot weather the bass get real active and will go deeper. Your crank bait will dive down to their hiding places. Use a natural color in your crank baits. Sunfish colors are good ones to use.

If you are out to get a lot of fish, use a sliding rig baited with a big nightcrawler. This one rig should put plenty of bass in your boat. All you need is a small #6 or #8 Aberdeen type hook, a light test line, a sliding sinker and o-ring. Put your line through the sinker and then tie it to the o-ring. Then tie your 16" of leader line to your o-ring and then your hook. Then hook a nightcrawler once through the nose to the rig. This type of rig will fish the bottom.

Use a few of these tips and you'll have some mighty good bass eating.
