Bass Pro Shop Versus Sportsman's Warehouse

Who Has the Better Deals, the Better Customer Care and Overall Ambience?

Regina Sunderland
Here in Las Vegas, Nevada, if you want to purchase outdoors or sports equipment in at a more specialized Store you go either to the Bass Pro Shop or the Sportsman's Warehouse. My husband and I are avid shoppers at both places. Here are a couple of side by side comparisons of each Store.

The Bass Pro Shop - a Store with ambiance and a bit for everyone.

The upside: From your basic camping equipment, over Archery, Boats, Guns to clothing, books and yes even knick knacks and Jewelry for the Outdoors Enthusiast the Bass Pro Shop has a bit of everything. With its "shooting arcade" for the younger visitors, the indoors water streams and the lovely set up I would consider this a place to just hang out at times. Even if you are not the Sports Fanatic in your family, you won't be able to help yourself but enjoy the atmosphere this place creates.

With minor exceptions of course you will always find friendly and most of the time knowledgeable staff in the various departments. Their Lessons are easy to understand and taught on regular bases.

The downside: The cost of the Items. I found that in most areas the items are a bit overpriced, but I guess they need to pay for the liberal displays somehow. Their selection in some of the Items is a bit sparse as well. The Location is a bit out of the way, but that can be a bonus point as well.

Location: 8200 Dean Martin Drive

The Sportsman's Warehouse - low prices and a decent selection.

The upside: Hands down the Prices. Most items there are more then reasonable. All in all they have a good selection that is Outdoors Sports specific. Don't bother looking for frilly items and Jewelry in this place. This is bare knuckle down to the bone Warehouse Items with little atmosphere, translating into savings for the customer.

The downside: Customer Service seems to be a little on the limb. Sadly they seem to have a knack for putting the wrong people in the wrong department. The Times we have been shopping there, we found knowledgeable help after searching around the Store and asking random Store Clerks for help. This is not a place that will entice you to be there for a long time. So please leave your non-sports interested people in a different location if you are planning on being there longer then ½ hour.

Location: 390 W Lake Mead Pkwy

Henderson, NV89015

Specializations: For the Bass Pro Shop it is fishing and boating and the Sportsman's Warehouse seems to go more for the Hunters.

Hours of Operation:

Bass Pro Shop: Open 364 Days a Year! Mon - Sat: 9 am - 10 pm, Sun 10 am - 7 pm

Sportsman's Warehouse: Mon - Sat: 9 am - 10 pm, Sun 11am - 6 pm

Rewards Programs: Bass Pro Shop yes , Sportsman's Warehouse currently no.

Overall Review: Both are excellent places to meet your outdoors shopping needs. If you are on a stricter budget and don't really care about atmosphere and a more relaxed shopping experience then I would suggest the Sportsman's Warehouse. If cost is not as important for you, but instead you enjoy browsing around and want a bit for the entire family then I would suggest a trip to the Bass Pro Shop.

Actually, you are incorrect about the Rewards program. SW does offer an instant approval system for their VISA credit card. It only takes roughly 60 seconds to find out if you are approved or not. If you are approved they give you a $25 gift card just like that too! You rack up points with purchases on the card - 3 points for every dollar spent at SW and 1 point everywhere else. After so many points you get a $25 reward certificate...and it doesn't take long to rack it up from my experiences ;). I have shopped both but I end up buying at SW b/c of, like you said, prices. I have never really had trouble finding knowledgeable staff though - I know that the store you shop at - Henderson, NV is relatively new so maybe the staff is still being fully trained. The stores I have shopped have been great for customer service and knowledgeable associates. Thanks for the tips on both businesses!
