Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy Lavender Chamomile Sleep Hand Cream Review

Alexandra Morgan
I'm not sure I could ever convey just how much I love the scent of lavender; I've got lavender linen spray, lavender perfume, lavender shower gel, lavender sleep mask, and even dried lavender hanging upside down in my closet. Ok, I guess you all get the point. Anyway, when I discovered Bath&Body Works Aromatherapy Lavender Chamomile Sleep Hand Cream I was overjoyed to add it to my collection, but was really secretly praying it would prove worth the $10 I spent on it. If you enjoy the scent of lavender and would like to know all about this product before purchasing, then read on.

Bath&Body Works Aromatherapy Lavender Chamomile Sleep Hand Cream: Product Packaging

I liked the calm inducing product packaging scheme of Bath&Body Works Aromatherapy Lavender Chamomile Sleep Hand Cream right from the start. The hand cream comes in a dark blue/purple-ish three fluid ounce bottle with lavender detailing, giving the senses a feeling of calm right at first glance. It also doesn't hurt that the bottle boasts (front and center) the hand cream's sleep inducing properties.

So I paid my $10 for the hand cream and went home hoping to get a good night's sleep and wake up with silky soft hands.

Bath&Body Works Aromatherapy Lavender Chamomile Sleep Hand Cream: Product Performance

I'm not going to claim that this hand cream will replace a nightly dose of Ambien or knock you out in 10 minutes flat, but the mild calming effects of lavender and chamomile have been reported for many years now. Both lavender and chamomile help to reduce heart rate and bring a sense of overall calm to the body.

When first applying the product I was struck by the potency of the fragrance. When I first saw the Bath&Body Works hand cream in the store I wondered why someone would ever use hand cream infused with essential oils as a form of aromatherapy, rather than the stronger base essential oil itself; but that first application taught me a thing or two. Once the hand cream was applied to my hands and arms I knew I just might have a good night's sleep after all.

Tip: Since this hand cream is extremely fragrant, if you don't like the scent of lavender, you probably will want to pass on this one.

Thankfully, Bath&Body Works Aromatherapy Lavender Chamomile Sleep Hand Cream not only fulfills its end of the bargain on fragrance, but on moisturizing as well. This cream is so light and thin that initial reaction is that it couldn't possibly tackle really dry cracked skin, but it does. A very small dab of the hand cream will cover a good portion of skin and instant results are felt. If you want to maximize the results of this hand cream, apply every night to hand and arms and then finish by wearing a pair of gloves to bed. Of course when I say gloves, I mean the little cotton gloves you find in the drug store, designed especially for hand cream moisture retention.

My one complaint about this hand cream is that it leaves a greasy looking sheen on the skin, this is most likely due to the fact that it is infused with oils. By the same token, it is a hand cream designed for night time use, so appearances aren't incredibly important.

Bath&Body Works Aromatherapy Lavender Chamomile Sleep Hand Cream: Overall

I won't kid you and say that I'm happy with the price, I'm not. I think it's ludicrous that any lotion would cost more than $5, but here and there we all allow ourselves little splurges, and this is one of mine. Though Bath&Body Works Aromatherapy Lavender Chamomile Sleep Hand Cream is not a product I would purchase every month, I do continue to use it in small amounts a couple of nights a week, and would feel comfortable purchasing a new bottle once every three months or so as a luxury beauty item.

Would I recommend Bath&Body Works Aromatherapy Lavender Chamomile Sleep Hand Cream as your daily hand moisturizer? No, it just doesn't make sense when you can pick up a bottle of Palmer's Cocoa Butter for around $3, but as an every so often beauty item, I'd definitely recommend it.
