Batman: Arkham Asylum for the PC

It was a dark and stormy night... Wait! He was a Dark and stormy Knight!

It was a dark and stormy night when the Joker was captured by Batman. Everything even appeared to be going normally including the Joker jeering at the fellow inmates of Arkham asylum, located on deserted Arkham Island. Of course, in typical Batman fashion, it's a trap! The Joker has the run of the Asylum, and his guest is Batman, the Dark Knight.

Batman: Arkham Asylum is lauded as one of the best "comic book" video games ever made, and I have to agree. The graphics are great, and it is not just a button masher. This game is more of a stealth game, though there are points where you need to just beat down hordes of goons in typical Bat fashion.

As we all know, Batman may be dark, but he's not a killer. This holds true in Batman: Arkham Asylum as he would prefer incapacitation to killing. Since he can be killed by bullets, he needs to use the detective skills he is famous for in much of the game. Whether you are following trails of smoke long gone, alcohol vapors, or fingerprints, the Dark Knight has a 'detective mode' where his cool gadgets let him see the unseeable.

Somehow his ultra-advanced HUD automatically knows if someone has a weapon, because when you're fighting or about to fight, you can see the skeleton's outlined in red and blue for weapon holders and those who prefer to use their fists.

For some reason, the Riddler has added a bunch of riddles around the Island that offer Batman experience to upgrade his utility belt, and his own physical prowess. Why the Riddler will help Batman, we'll never know.

Swing from rooftop to rooftop in this enormous facility with the help of a your bat-grappling hook, use your exploding gel (somehow non-lethal to humans), or throw your enemies off a ledge (if they can survive the fall) in order to fight your way to the Joker.

Throughout the game you can find the aforementioned tips left by the Riddler to learn about the Asylum, the characters of Gotham City, and more as you gain experience and waste time through your quest.

You will meet with such villains (and villanesses) such as Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, and more during this quest to get the Joker, and you will find much about the Dark Knight's universe with the help of the Riddler.

This game is awesome because it is truly beginning to describe the Batman experience in a way that is fun to play. Soaring through the air with a grappling hook, using the batarang to take out your foes, hordes of mindless thugs to wade through (with actually a pretty good AI) and your typical boss fights. 5 stars, all the way!
