Battery Information and Maintenance Tip

A2V
Have you ever heard of reserve capacity when you are buying battery? Well, reserved capacity is not just a number indicated on the battery label, it is the number of minutes a fully charged battery at 80°F will sustain a discharge load of 25 amperes to a cut-off voltage of 1.75 V per cell. Thus this makes you confuse? Actually this means that reserve capacity is the time it takes to power all of your car electrical equipment in case your car charging system failed, in other words reserved capacity is essential when you are driving at night with failed charging system. The higher the reserve capacity the longer you can drive with all the necessary lights and accessories on.

Tips on how to maintain battery to maximize the usage and functions

Battery should always be checked for damages because it can fail without any warning, simple way of checking your batteries is to do the following.

Check the tightness of battery terminal to your vehicle. Also check the battery for looseness of mounting on your vehicle as it may cause the battery a possible damage due to excess vibration coming from the vehicle itself, but not to over tighten the battery fixing bracket this might also cause container damage due to undue stress.

Check your battery fluid level in a routine inspections, battery fluid must immersed the uppermost level of battery plates, if you have a low level battery fluid just add distilled water until the top most level of plates are immersed. It is not recommended to operate your vehicle if you have a low battery fluid as it will cause a higher load to a battery that may generates heat, which may cause a battery life to be shortened or much worst can lead to battery explosion.

Always keep you battery clean, especially the terminals to avoid corrosion that may prevent your engine from starting. If you have a corroded battery terminals, just washed it with baking soda and water solution.

Battery generates self discharged when your vehicle is not in use, usually a month or so without using the vehicle, so it's better to disconnect the negative battery terminal cable to prevent it from discharging.

And lastly, when replacing a battery be sure that it has the same capacity as the replaced battery, because installing a battery lower than the electrical demands of your vehicle may result to premature failure of your battery.
