Battlefield Bad Company 2 Story
Most of the buzz surrounding Bad Company 2 is the online modes. The single player is a gripping, but short experience. Players start off in an unnamed Japanese island during World War II. During the prologue, you learn of a secret weapon code named "Aurora." This mysterious weapon can not fall into the hands of the Russians. The story is straightforward and entertaining. Players will fight in different locations from snow covered mountain towns and jungles. The same characters from the original Bad Company return without the humorous quips and joking around. This tone is more serious and better suits the game.
Battlefield Bad Company 2 Game Play
The environments are completely destructible. While it's amazing blowing up an entire building with the enemies inside, the same thing can happen to your team. Battlefield Bad Company 2 doesn't let players duck idly behind a create or wall. Shoot it enough and it's gone. There were many times early on when I would run into a building to let my health recharge, only to find the nearest wall destroyed within seconds. The destruction is a realistic feature, keeping you always on alert.
The controls are responsive. Switching guns or driving vehicles is smooth and doesn't take away from the action. There are also collectible guns to find. The weapon selection is huge and player won't grow tired of using the same old gun. The A.I. members of the team act like soldiers. They do not shoot randomly and never kill the enemy like in other games. Players are not the only hero. The A.I. will cover you while you flank, letting you complete tasks and not worry about getting ambushed. The one thing I didn't like about the campaign is the lack of a co-op mode.
Battlefield Bad Company 2 Replay Value
While the campaign is only around 6 hours long, players can always go back and find different weapons. The real replay value is in the four multiplayer modes. They are Rush, Squad Rush, Squad Deathmatch and Conquest. Rush mode has player destroying or defending M-COM stations. Conquest is like Capture the Flag. Squad Rush has one M-COM station and two opposing teams. In Deathmatch, the first team with 50 kills wins. There's a customizable weapons menu and unlockable items. Multiplayer's exciting because the buildings come tumbling down around you or your enemy. There is more of an emphasis on teamwork then most multiplayer experiences. There will also be at least one downloadable content available soon.
If you want an action packed single player experience, Bad Company 2 is great for a rental. The multiplayer is were the game excels and it's worth the $60.00. With the different modes and unlockable upgrades, it doesn't get boring. I expect players will be battling online in Bad Company 2 for a long time to come.
