Battle for Trust
If I unintentionally hurt you,
Will you intentionally do the same?
What is this a game of who can cause more pain?
If I tell you I love you before you say those words to me,
Would you walk away and turn your back on me?
Why is there an unnecessary battle within our hearts?
Our emotions are often withheld and released alone in the dark.
If I change who I am in an effort to compromise,
Would you take my kindness for a weakness?
Why don't you and I understand that love is stronger than pride?
Time has yet to prove in each other we can truly confide.
If tears start to fall from eyes and I begin to release all that I am feeling inside,
Would you look into my eyes and tell me that everything is going to be alright?
Or will you continue to run in and out of my life?
If I can't trust you,
And you can't trust me.
We are wasting our time.
There is nothing to prove,
If we are too hurt to leave the past behind.

Beautiful. I have been married for almost 28 years. The foundation of our marriage is based on mutual trust. Without it...you don't have a relationship and won't survive.
