Battlestar Galactica Auction to Be Held January 2009

If you only know Battlestar Galactica from the1970's version with Loren Greene and "Face" from "The A-Team," disregard this article now. If, however, you are one of the fans eagerly anticipating the return of the final season of one of the best sci-fi shows ever, January 2009 will bring a double treat for you Battlestar Galactica (BSG) fans. NBC Universal has decided to auction off some of the props, costumes, and set pieces from BSG to coincide with the start of the final season on January 16.

The Battlestar Galactica auction will take place January 16 - 18, 2009 at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, CA and feature items from the first three seasons of the show. On Friday, January 16, all items in the auction will be on display for preview. So you can preview the item during the day and see it in action that night when the season begins. There will also be panel discussions with the people who created the props.

Items to be auctioned off include full sized ships like the Viper and a Cylon Raider and Caprica Six's infamous red dress. I have no idea how someone would actually take home a Viper or where they would put it, but if you have the money and the space, why not go for it?

On Saturday and Sunday, 800 lots will be sold off in a live auction, which can also be seen online for all those who cannot make it to the auction in person. People will also be able to post bids online from the comfort of their own home at www.battlestarprops.com.

On the following Tuesday, an additional 200 items from Battlestar Galactica will be put up on eBay for bidding Jan 23 - 30. Additional online auctions will be held each week to coincide with each airing of a new BSG episode. Note that a portion of all proceeds will benefit the United Way.

There is a hotel onsite at the convention center, the Sheraton Pasadena, which has a special rate of $125 per night for the Battlestar Galactica auction. One block away is the Hilton Hotel. However, before booking the special BSG rate at the Sheraton, do a quick check online at any of the travel sites - you might get a cheaper rate, and if you have a car and can find a better rate at any other hotel in the LA area, then do that. Pasadena is not too far from Los Angeles, and you'll want to save as much coin on the hotel for the auction, right?

So if you need to be comforted because you're in denial over the end of Battlestar Galactica or because you just can't wait for the reveal of the final Cylon, take a look at the auction to get a piece of the BSG action before it's all over. Depending on who the final Cylon is, you might just need a reminder of what an awesome show Battlestar Galactica is or of how great it once was.
