The Purchase: My parents wanted to buy us this for Christmas to help us get our house in order. I had a 20% of coupon for Bed Bath and Beyond, as usual, but the problem was that those coupons can only be used in the store. It was a problem because this Bauhaus High Cabinet can only be purchased online. After emailing Bed Bath and Beyond's customer service I learned a new method for using the coupons. All we had to do was go into the store and ask them to order the item for us. Then we were able to use the 20% off coupon and the product was shipped right to our house. My mom still had to pay for shipping, but at least we got to use the coupon. Although Bed Bath and Beyond does sell furniture at their stores, some of it can only be purchased online OR by having an associate order it for you as we did.
The Assembly: When we saw the box, it was pretty much the same size as the product, so we almost thought it was all put together already. That was wishful thinking, however, as the product was in parts. It comes with 2 sides, a back, a top and bottom piece, 4 shelves and a cabinet door. Everything went together fairly easily with only one little screw missing. My dad ended up repositioning the door closure because it was a little bit too far forward to close properly. That was easy for him and he had it all together with help from my husband. All we needed was a screwdriver to tighten the screws.
All Put Together: Once it was completely put together, I could instantly tell it was sturdy yet easy to move around. My husband put it into the corner and it looked like it belonged there all along. Since it is sort of lightweight, my dad installed an anchor to hold it on the wall so that little kids wouldn't pull it over and get hurt. It is always a good idea to anchor any kind of tall furniture.
Usage: The four shelves as well as the top leave me with plenty of room for some photo albums, some pictures, and some knick-knacks. The simple white finish makes it so my decor really stands out and the solid color makes it almost blend into the walls so it looks like it was meant to be there. The shelves are too close together for tall photo albums, but they worked perfect for my shorter photo albums which I plan to buy from now on. The cabinet on the bottom is too small for any major things, but can easily be used for a set of guest towels or something similar. I won't be putting anything in there I wouldn't want kids to get into because the door opens very easily.
The Only Flaw: Inside the top of the cabinet, it is a little scratched up. This is the only flaw I've found with the cabinet and I noticed that I can't even tell unless I look in the corner. I do plan to cover this up with some white paint someday, but for now I don't even notice it so I'm going to leave it and see if anyone else notices it.
Make it Your Own: We decided to leave this product as is with the simple white finish, however the Bauhaus High Cabinet would be great for decorating. Kids could put stickers on it, our you could paint it in various colors and designs. This wood product is sturdy so even if it does start to get scratched up, I know i can always paint it and keep it alive.
The Bauhaus High Cabinet - it's not just for bathrooms! Bed Bath and Beyond advertises it for the bathroom, so I was a bit worried it would look like a bathroom product. However, it looks great in our hallway and could easily go in any room of your house depending on what you need. The Bauhaus High Cabinet is 15" wide and 11.75" deep making it an easy fit for any corner or space in your house. Check it out on Bed Bath and Beyond, and don't forget your coupon! Enjoy!!
