I noticed that my friend that had generally long and healthy hair used a heavy grease on her hair and ends when she used a ceramic curling iron to curl her hair. I thought this was a good idea. I hadn't used a heavy grease in a long time, so I wasn't familiar with what was out there. There were a lot of products that were available in the stores. There were some that I wanted to try on the shelves on the stores. But, because I didn't want my hair to be very greasy, I never bothered to try them. With a relaxer I like it to be soft and bouncy.
But, with a texturizer i really wasn't able to comb out my hair or wrap it or do anything like that because my hair was very thick. So new rules applied. My hair was very thick. I could only finger comb the curls out. So I felt a heavy grease wouldn't weigh it down too much if I used it sparingly.
So I tried the BB Maximum Strength Super Gro. It contains vitamin E, Sage and Sulfur. It claims to be a miracle hair aide. I'm not sure about that; but I opened the jar and smelled the product and I really liked it. I rubbed a little on my hand and liked the consistency of the product. I've read in many places; especially online that you shouldn't use petroleum and mineral oil on the hair. This product does contain both of these products. At the same time I really wanted to be sure and protect my ends. I know that petroleum and mineral oil are heavy greases and they can protect my hair somewhat from the heat.
The jar also recommends that you use it on the scalp. I personally would not used petroleum based products on my scalp. I'm very cautious about using oils on my scalp because I know that heavy oils will clog the hair follicles and make it hard for growth. So I chose not to use this product on my scalp at all. I'm not sure abut the results it claims as I've never used this product on my scalp.
What i did like about the product, which made me consider using it for a moment on my scalp; is that it contains sulfur. Sulfur is very good for the African American scalp and hair in regards to hair growth.
I only use on my scalp essential oils and things of that nature; and oils that are recommended by other people who have achieved significant levels of growth and conditioning. The other good ingredients in the product consist of coconut oil, sesame oil, hydrolyzed collagen, and vitamins D, E, A, wheat germ, sage, and sulfur. Sage and sulfur are the last 2 ingredients which is not the best place for them to be but at least they are there. Overall I did like this product. Just keep in mind that it is petroleum based and contains mineral oil. I think this is a good product. My hair is still thick and healthy and I haven't experienced any significant breakage after using heat on somewhat of a regular basis. I have since stopped using heat and am happy to have held onto the growth and health that my hair contained before I used heat regularly. I think this is due to the protection offered by this product.
