BCS Bowl Games Predictions

List of My BCS Bowl Game Predictions

Rich Warren
College football has been wacky this year. Filled with monumental upsets (Appalachian St over Michigan, Stanford over USC, Colorado over Texas, and Pitt over WVU) this season can be named "The year of the upset." Many surprise teams stepped up to the plate this year in hopes of playing for a national title, but fell short. South Florida, Boston College, Missouri, Kansas, Arizona St., Oregon, West Virginia all had their chances to play for the BCS championship, but key losses kept them out of the BCS title game.

The dust has cleared and Ohio State and LSU are the lone remaining teams standing in the top two spots. They will play for the national title on January 7th, 2008.

Here are the rest of the BCS Matchups and my predictions for each game. Please leave a comment with your predictions and we'll see who comes closest.

Rose Bowl: Illinois Fighting Illini versus USC Trojans
Pasadena, CA January 1, 2008 4:30 PM EST on ABC

The Rose Bowl decided to stay with tradition, selecting a Big Ten team vs. a Pac Ten team this year even though there probably were better matchups available.

Illinois: 34
USC: 27

FEDEX Orange Bowl: Kansas Jayhawks versus Virginia Tech Hokies
Miami, Fl January 3, 2008 8:00 PM EST on FOX

Who would have ever thought that the Kansas Jayhawks would ever be in a BCS bowl game. Virginia Tech brings a stingy defense.

Kansas: 23
Virginia Tech: 28

ALLSTATE SUGAR BOWL: Hawaii Warriors versus Georgia Bulldogs
New Orleans - Jan. 1, 2008 FOX, 8:30 p.m. EST

Interesting matchup of two teams that legitimately could have been in the National Title Game. Hawaii because they were the only undefeated team in college football and Georgia because they were actually ranked ahead of LSU prior the the SEC championship game. Look for Colt Brennan to break out onto the National Scene as he lights up the Georgia Defense.

Hawaii: 49
Georgia: 34

TOSTITOS FIESTA BOWL: West Virginia Mountaineers versus Oklahoma Sooners
Glendale, AZ - Jan. 2, 2008 FOX, 8 p.m. ET

After a loss to Pitt, I don't even feel that West Virginia deserves to be playing in this game, but the BCS thought different. I don't think that West Virginia will be recovered from their choke against Pitt. I look for Oklahoma to dominate this game in the same fashion they did against Missouri.

Oklahoma: 42
West Virginia: 17

ALLSTATE BCS CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: Ohio State Buckeyes versus LSU Tigers
New Orleans - Jan. 7, 2008 FOX, 8 p.m. ET

I am torn about this game. Even though this is a different season, I still can't forget about the beating Ohio State took last year against the SEC. Ohio State has never beaten an SEC team in a bowl game. But I think this year is going to be different. Ohio State wins a defensive battle against the so called "Michigan Man" that Les Miles claims to be. Ohio State proves to the nation that Les Miles wouldn't have been the right candidate for the Michigan Job.

Ohio State: 27
LSU: 13
