BCS National Championship 2012 Las Vegas Odds to Win and Picks: The Long Shots

Todd Jacobs
The 2012 BCS National Championship Football game will be played in the Louisiana Superdome early in 2012. The following 25 teams are Las Vegas long shots according to the Las Vegas Hilton Superbook to play for the crystal football.

Last year Auburn began as a 100-1 shot to win the BCS National Championship and one of these teams may follow in their footsteps. How many of these teams have a legitimate chance of hitting pay dirt? Maybe only five but we will take a quick look at all 25 teams.

Arizona State Sun Devils: 100-1

The Arizona State Sun Devils will have an experienced team heading into the 2011 NCAA College football season but they will have a few important hurdles to clear once the PAC 12 begins play. If they beat Oregon on October 15th they will shoot up the charts. This will give them a chance to make it to a BCS bowl game.

Utah Utes: 100-1

The Utah Utes can be a contender in their first season in the PAC 12. They will play two big out of conference games in 2011. The first will be an early game against the BYU Cougars, their bitter in state rivals. The second out of conference game that will be a cake walk in their game against the Pittsburgh Panthers.

The Utah Utes can conceivably play in the PAC 12 Championship game December 3rd and if they win it could result in a BCS Championship game. They are the first of five long shot bets to win the BCS National Championship game.

Auburn Tigers: 100-1

The defending champs of the BCS National Championship are ranked as a 100-1 shot to win the the national title one more time. The feat is one of the most difficult to achieve in college football and the loss of the top offensive and defensive players in college football will not help their cause.

Maryland Terrapins 100-1

Ralph Friedgen was on the verge of something special with this Terrapin team before he was rudely ousted by an over zealous donor to the college in favor of current head coach, Randy Edsall. Now Edsall will take all the credit for the 2011 success that has been built by Friedgen. Maryland has a deep bench and their recruiting class of 2011 will be a dynamite combination.

Iowa Hawkeyes: 100-1

the Iowa Hawkeyes loss of Ricki Stanzi will be to their betterment. Now this team can get back to their meat and potatoes style of running the ball down a team's throat and asking their offensive line to blow the defense off the ball late in the fourth quarter.

BYU Cougars: 200-1

The BYU Cougars were awful in their last season in the Mountain West Conference. Now they become and independent As an ind dependent and the personal team of ESPN, the BYU Cougars will play a pivotal role in the BCS standings and decisions to be made.BYU will be a good bet at 200-1.

The following are odds on the remaining teams that are vying for a BCS National Championship but have absolutely no chance to take one home.
