BCS National Championship Game '09

Florida vs. Oklahoma

Richard Stein
This year's National Championship game should be a much less spectacular game than most expect. Often said to be a game pitting Oklahoma's strong offense vs. Florida's dominant defense, this may not be so. The pivotal aspect of the game is whether or not Oklahoma's defense will be able to stop Florida's offense, which doesn't appear to be the case.

The most recognizable piece about Florida's offense is its two backs, Percey Harvin and Tim Tebow. They also happen to be the most recognizable players on the entire Florida team. Both have the ability to run the ball, with Harvin's speed and quickness and Tebow's bone crushing brute force. Oh and did I mention, Tebow is Florida's quarterback, and I good one at that.

The former Heisman Trophy winner has unrivaled versatility, being both an excellent runner and passer. He is arguably the best player in college football. And though Oklahoma's defense is good, it cannot stop Florida's awesome offensive machine. So back to the question whether or not Florida's defense can stop Oklahoma's offense. Florida's defensive can stop good offenses, look at Georgia or Alabama, and Oklahoma's offense has proven it can out score opponents, look at every game except for Texas.

As is such the question may be mute and will most definitely not be decided until it plays out on game day. However the problem, for Oklahoma, lays in the fact that they have to rely on their offense to drastically outscore their opponent's, to attain the win, while Florida does not have to solely rely on either side of the ball to win. Oklahoma hasn't won a game where their offense hasn't produced over 40 points

. Their defense simply can't get the job done, so they rely on the offense to do it for them. Both Florida's offense and defense have shown their worth, proving that they are a more versatile team. And if Tim Tebow shows us anything about college football, versatility wins games.
