BCS National Championship Prediction

Shelley
2007 BCS National Championship Prediction: Bowl season has arrived and is well underway. The thirty-two games played over three weeks, started with the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego and will culminate with the BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans. This year, the BCS championship game will pit the nation's No. 3 total defense (LSU) against the nation's No. 1 total defense (Ohio State). Kickoff for the BCS National Championship game is scheduled for Monday, January 7, 2008, 8:00 PM (Eastern), at the Super Dome in New Orleans. LSU will have the advantage of playing for the national championship close to home. The crowd definitely will be an advantage for the LSU Tigers.

Ohio State is looking for some redemption after being blown out 41-14 by Florida in last season's BCS title game. With one of the best offensive lines in the country, Ohio State finished the season with an 11-1 record. Ohio State is extremely physical and going to be a real challenge for the Tigers front seven. Look for the 6'1 235 pound power back Chris "Beanie" Wells to establish the running game early and open up the passing game for quarterback Todd Boeckman. This season, the Ohio State running back averaged 5.8 yards per carry and scored 14 rushing touchdowns. Taking an early lead and setting the tone early should quite the LSU crowd.

LSU quarterback Matt Flynn led the team to an 11-2 finish this season and should be ready to go after sitting out the SEC title game against Tennessee. Running back Jacob Hester, runs with great power and has a reputation for holding on to the football. However, is LSU is going to win, they must shut down Chris Wells and the Ohio State running game.

With a lose late in the season, to an unranked team at home, many feel the Tigers are lucky to be in the National Title Game. Many feel that Georgia was more deserving, pointing to the Bulldogs' 41-10 blowout of Hawaii in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. However, LSU is still favored over Ohio State by 3.5 points.

My Prediction: LSU: 20 Ohio State: 24

The Buckeyes don't have a chance against a healthy LSU team.
