BCS Rankings for Week 10 Leap Texas Over Alabama

Robert Dougherty
The BCS rankings after Week 10 are like the college football rankings. The BCS rankings for Week 10 have the same top 3 teams, while the BCS rankings are more complicated below them. The BCS hopes that the rankings will stay the same on top, to avoid greater controversy than ever. But although Florida, Alabama and Texas are still controlling things, the teams behind them still keep changing positions as they play catch up in the BCS rankings.

The BCS rankings for Week 10 stayed the same on top as the AP and USA Today polls. Texas went past Alabama to No. 2 in the AP and USA Today, and did the same in the BCS rankings. But that doesn't matter, as Texas should be in the BCS title game if they win out, no matter what. Alabama could jump back to No. 2 in the BCS anyway by beating LSU this week.

While Florida, Alabama and Texas rule the BCS rankings for the third straight time, the week 10 rankings below them are a little different. Iowa managed to stay at No. 4, despite struggling through three quarters against Indiana. The new No. 5 in the BCS rankings is Cincinnati, with TCU jumping up to sixth.

Boise State and Oregon are now seventh and eighth, coming full circle from their controversial game in the beginning of the season. LSU is ninth, with their game against Alabama a last stand for their BCS title hopes. Georgia Tech rounds out the top 10, as the Yellow Jackets can likely only dream of an ACC championship.

The BCS rankings in week 10 officially eliminated USC from the title race, after their blowout loss to Oregon. There are about nine teams left in the BCS title game chase, even though six of them will have no shot if Florida, Texas and Alabama keep winning. With their schedules in November, most expect them to go unchallenged in this final month of the regular season.

Iowa, Cincinnati, TCU, Boise State and Oregon still have a ways to go to move up the BCS rankings, even if the Big 3 finally lose. The Hawkeyes' biggest test left is against Ohio State in two weeks, while TCU goes to Utah on that same week, and Cincinnati has to hold off the Big East.

Boise State's weak schedule is still their albatross, although they look better the more Oregon wins. That loss may keep the Ducks from rising any further in the BCS rankings, though a Pac-10 title is in reach.

For next week, the BCS rankings will be most affected by the Alabama-LSU game, as the Crimson Tide try to stay on track, while LSU could climb up with an upset.
