Be Careful What You Write, it Could Cost a Life

Hannah
I have been thinking about this for a very long time. I finally decided today after reading an article on domestic violence it was time to write this article. It really scares me that so many people write articles on subjects that they have no training, education or experience in, and only offer a camouflaged personal opinion that could be dangerous to others.

It is especially bothers me when someone writes about psychological disorders, medical conditions, or serious situations that people experience. I do realize that some of them are only trying to help. Unfortunately, it doesn't help when the information given can end up hurting others.

Picking a few quotes form a couple of books does not a helpful article make. In fact some can even hurt. There are an infinite amount of subjects to write on, so why do these people insist on writing about things they know little about? The answer in my opinion is they are trying to camouflage a personal opinion with a few bits of information, to make it look good. I'm sure the ones that actually do this would totally disagree.

There seems to be a lot of good sense to the saying, write what you know. If you know it, meaning through education, training, and experience, the information as well as the article will probably be note worthy. I must say that most of the articles I have read have nothing to do with good, solid, information.

Don't get me wrong I think there are a lot of wonderful articles on Associated Content and other places on the web about many different subjects. I have read beautiful articles written by people who have had the most wondrous, and horrible experiences. However, when it comes to an article about that which could affect someone's life seriously, I would like that left to those who have the training and experience needed to write it. At the very least I would like to see a disclaimer stating they are not qualified professionals, and their article is not intended as advice, or solutions to whatever situation they may be writing about. This would keep things clear in the mind of the person reading the article.

In closing I would like to say, PLEASE be careful with what you write about. Leave articles about psychological disorders, medical conditions, and anything that could seriously affect an individual's life to those who have training, education, and experience in that field. It could save a life, as well as prevent one from ending!

*Please remember those at Christmas who are experiencing domestic violence, the homeless, troops serving our country, and anyone who is not as fortunate as you!
