For writers, exposure is very important. Especially if you are trying to make a name for your self in a particular field and/or feel you have something say. There are some good non-paying opportunities for writers to submit their work just for the propose of exposure. It is also great for referring possible employers to professionally published examples of your work, and not just for writing positions. Other professionals could benefit from writing and publishing article or columns about their field.

At websites like the californiachronicle.com you can apply to be an unpaid contributor, your articles could be published at any of the American Chronicle family of online magazines that are syndicated nation and worldwide. There are 21 different online magazines where your work could be published. They will also appear in all major search engines, and many news aggregators like Google News, Lycos, etc. You will be listed as the writer on their local, state, national, and international online magazines, you get to set up your Author's page after you are accepted as a contributor.

Before you can submit any articles, you must send a sample to the editor at, editor@amchron.com, and make sure you note whether you want to be author, blogger or both. Your sample must be copied-and-pasted into body of email. A great part about this is you retain all copyrights to your work, and may publish it elsewhere. It is nice that you do not have to give up your copyrights. It is also ok to submit work already published, as long as you (the author) have the right to re-publish. Make sure you the details about re-publishing when ever you are submitting any work, because with some you can 're-publish' but only after a set time (usually one year).

They accept articles on a variety of subjects, from hobbies, to entertainment. Submitting your articles is easy, articles get reviewed before going live on any website, and this can take up to 48 hours.

Articles are not usually rejected, unless written poorly or it violates the rules. Every article I have submitted has been accepted.

For bloggers wanting exposure, there are great unpaid opportunities with high quality national, state, and local city blog's. However, blog's are mostly political, but they can be about other stuff. As long as it is something people will want to read. You can write articles and blog if you like.
