Be a DJ with NowLive: The Home of Social Broadcasting

Alyssa Branen
Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a radio DJ? Perhaps you've always wanted to be the next Howard Stern or Dr Laura. If you have something to say, and need a free outlet in which to do it, nowlive.com is the place to do it.

At NowLive, anyone who owns a cell phone and preferably has unlimited long distance, can host their own user generated talk show for free. How it works is basically this simple. Go to www.nowlive.com and sign up for a free account. Once you have your personal page set up you can click on the "click here to start a broadcast" button. Once you have clicked that button, a window pops up asking you if you want to immediately go on air, or if you want to write up a description about your show, what the rating will be(E=Everyone, M=Moderate, S-Strong Content) and when you would like it to be on the air. If you choose to go immediately on the air, you are asked what your cell phone number is, and then given a list of local numbers to call into. Call into the number and when prompted, enter the show ID that you were given when you clicked on the quick start button. If you choose to schedule your show for a later date, just dial into the number at that time and follow the prompts.

Once you have called in and your show is started, a chat applet will appear where other NowLive members and guests can hear you speaking from your cell phone. They can chat with you, and each other, and can call into your show and talk with you live on the air. You can even designate a co-host if you want, having them call into the show and staying on air with you the entire time. Again, it is HIGHLY recommended that you have unlimited long distance. People can also upload pictures, music, and videos from you tube on the side of the chatroom screen. If a user wishes to call into your show, all they do is press the call in button and they are given their local number to call in. You are the moderator of your show and chatroom. You can either accept the caller by unmuting them or you can hang up on them. The same goes with the chatroom, if a user gets out of line you can kick them from the chat. Once your show is finished, your show will be archived and available as a podcast.

If you prefer to just log into your NowLive account and listen to other broadcasts, this is highly encouraged as well. There are many popular user generated shows on the air right now that have followings, such as "Meek On A Leash", "Heather's Pant's Party", "Caroline's Daily Southern Syrup" and many more. All of these user's do their shows out of their home(or even sometimes on the road!) from their own cell phones.

NowLive also has a number of great live studio broadcasts brought to you straight from the NowLive Studios in LA. A number of celebrities have their own live NowLive broadcasts from the NowLive Studios, such as Adrianne Curry (Who's show is on Thursday nights at 6pm Pacific time) the first winner of America's Next Top Model and star of the Surreal Life and My Fair Brady, and Bobbi Billard (Who's show is on Sunday at 6pm Pacific time.) Internet Model, Fitness and lingerie Model, one of the most popular people on myspace and former women's wrestler.

There are also a number of other popular in studio shows such as "The Surf", hosted by a variety of NowLive employees, "RavenStake Live", "Nerdvana", and "That's Estertainment". There are a number of famous guests that tend to show up and be interviewed as well. For example there was a show titled "The Stupid Cancer Show" that had Fran Drecsher as a guest, and "Sluggo Radio Show" had the band Hinder on their show this afternoon. Adrianne Curry has had psychic medium Allison DuBois as a guest in the past. "Buttafuco and Nads" Had comedian Dwayne Perkins on the show yesterday, and today Ryan The Mighty, one of the hosts of "Nerdvana" is podcasting live from Comic-Con. LOTS of fun stuff going on at NowLive.

Whether your wanting to be a talk show host, a DJ or just want to listen to some great interactive radio, NowLive rocks!

It's like MySpace on crack! The shows are now even more interactive with streaming video on top of everything else. They're constantly adding features and help for the users and listeners.

You don't even need a cellphone any more!

You can start your show and call into shows using GoogleTalk and Gismo for FREE. No need to keep track of minutes or wait for non-peak hours. They have a widget you can put into your MySpace or website to stream your show and promote it when it's not on!
