Be a Good Team Player in a College Sport

Todd Hicks
Are you someone who is thinking about playing sports in college? If you have already begun doing so, are your team-centered traits not as strong as they need to be? It is important for any team to have good chemistry and have individuals that play well together in order to have a good shot at winning. You will learn how to be a good team player in college sports.

You can volunteer to become the captain, if your team does not already have one. In my opinion, a team captain is one who tries to pump up his or her fellow players.

You should be a mentor to those in the organization less experienced than you. You should give them pointers and help them understand what they are doing wrong and what they can do better.

It is important to not be overly concerned about becoming a professional athlete. Instead of only focusing on beefing up your personal statistics, you should be willing to make a sacrifice on a particular play when it is necessary. Let's use baseball as an example. In this game, there are times when you should not swing for the fences, no matter how good of a home run hitter you are. If the score is tied and the person batting in front of you leads off the inning with a double, you should try to move him over to third base with a bunt or a ground ball to first base so that he can score on a sacrifice fly.

It is your responsibility to contribute to a win and give the fans their money's worth. You must put forth your best effort.

You have to make it a joy for everyone to have you around. You need to always have a good attitude when you are on the field and in the locker room.

You must not attempt to hog all of the glory. For example, if you play basketball or football, you should sometimes pass the ball instead of going for a slam-dunk or touchdown.

It is imperative to be ready to come to a teammate's aid. If he or she is surrounded by players on the other team during an argument, you must run out to help.

You must be on time for every practice session. If you are late, you can inconvenience your club while showing a lack of regard for its time.

You must follow the organization's rules. By doing so, you will contribute to the club having harmony.

Follow these tips to be a good team player in college sports!
