Be a Hit at that Holiday Party

Mary Frederick
It's that time again, time for the holiday parties! They are in full effect as the season is well underway. You've likely received an invitation or two inviting you to some fabulous holiday gathering. Some people do really well at these parties and some struggle through with etiquette and how to really make a splash. If you want to be a hit at your next holiday party, here are a couple of things to keep in mind to really wow them.

*Always bring the hostess a gift! This goes a long way and it doesn't have to cost you a ton of money. It can be something as simple as some fresh baked cookies in a Christmas tin or a nice bottle of wine in a cute little wine bag. It doesn't have to be ultra fancy, but it shows that you took the time and made the effort. This will definitely start you off on the right foot as a great guest!

*Dress for the occassion. This may sound obvious but you'd be amazed at how many people show up in jeans to a cocktail party or in an overly fancy gown to a more casual affair. Find out what type of party it's going to be and dress the part. You don't want to be the guest that stands out for the wrong reasons, people will surely remember that and not in a good way. You want to be the guest who has on the cute outfit that everyone drools over. Again don't go crazy or spend too much money or effort, go with a basic like black pants and then wear a holiday or sparkly top. A little can go a long way! As for the guys, throwing on a more casual jacket can be the perfect look for any affair.

*Be sure to mingle and don't just stand in your corner. Okay we've all been to a party before where we didn't know anybody and were very tempted to stand in the corner with drink in hand. Fight that temptation and be the guest who meets new people, talks to old aquaintances, and is just generally outgoing. What do you have to lose? Be the guest who enjoys the party and makes an appearance to remember.

*Enjoy the holiday cocktails, but don't overindulge. You don't want to be that party guest who drank way too much and made the wrong kind of impression. Pace yourself and be sure to eat something along the way. You don't want to go from zero to sixty in an hour and forget the rest of the party. Take your time and don't use the cocktaiil to give you an outgoing personality.

*Offer to help, it goes a long way. Whenever you are the one that is playing host, it means a lot when people offer to help. Whether it's to pass around appetizers or to freshen drinks. Most especially when it comes to setting up, cleaning up after the party, or just offering to bring a dish--these are all greatly appreciated by the party host. Just one little gesture like this can be remembered well after the party is over.

Holiday parties can be so much fun and if you remember these tips you can most certainly be a hit!
