After waiting patiently for a few weeks, the book arrived. I was thrilled. I had in my hands a tool that would change my life forever. So many thoughts fill our mind each day. We process information, comments, conversations, feelings from people and in a split second decide how to interpret it and let it impact us. It leaves us with an ecstatic feeling of ourselves or crushes us to the core. How to find the balance? I loved the idea from Dr. Burns "Feeling Good" book where he says "we need to catch our thoughts while they are still in the air" so to speak. If we could only capture the thoughts, pause and decide on how it will affect us, it would change the way we feel. That's it! I have to learn how to be a thought catcher. Take it to the next level!
Dr. Burns' "Feeling Good Handbook" teach us how to be a thought catcher. Catch your thought, analyze it and classify it. Easier said then done! The handbook gives you the opportunity to go through a conversation you had with someone that has left you with the feeling of being a failure. Go through the conversation again and uncover your thought patterns. It's mind-boggling to realize how much we let words have so much negative effect. You will learn how to rationalize what people say. Learning to unscramble our thought process is easier than it looks. It's just common sense! The book includes a multitude of exercises. The exercises allow you to uncover your thought process. Repeating these exercises unlocks the real problem to the way you feel. Once you understand the way you process your thoughts, you empower yourself. It's a great feeling!
Learn to be a better communicator or listener. Improve your relationships with your family, friends and partner in life. Alleviate your depression or your melancholy mood. Take charge of your anxieties. Be a better parent, wife or husband. It's an ongoing process and worth your time because we are all valuable human beings. It's not a magical book. It requires YOU to be involved. It's a handbook that takes you by the hand on the road to feeling good.
