Although I'm a registered nurse, and have done CPR numerous times on people, I have never done it on an animal. I have two big dogs, and often wondered what would happen if they had a medical emergency, and stopped breathing.

Since I took the first aid and CPR class at the Anti-Cruelty Society a while back, I now feel prepared to handle any type of medical emergency that might arise with my furry babies. On January 22, 2011, the Anti-Cruelty Society is again hosting the Pet First Aid and CPR Class, located at their Education and Training Center at 169 West Grand Avenue in Chicago's River North neighborhood.

Although I remember what I learned in the class, I still refer back to the DVD and book I got at the class. Although the DVD and book weren't included in the price of the class, I bought them anyway, because I wanted a resource to refer back to in case I need a refresher.

The dog and cat mannequins were unique to the class, and we were all pleasantly surprised at the authenticity of them. I'm used to the "Annie" dolls that are the hallmark of human CPR classes, so when "Catt and "Dog" showed up at the class, I thought it was very apropos. The class materials are very substantial, and I even received a pet emergency planner with the class. The class time flew by, and three hours seemed like only minutes.

If you want more info on the class call 312-644-8338, or check out Anti-Cruelty website.
