For those individuals who want to achieve major results quickly; live life with a sense of urgency mentality. Be in survival mode every day of the year! Times are tough and they will only get worse. That's the mentality you should live life with. How often do you hear people say "I have plenty of time to complete my goals - I'm only xx years old.", or "I still have 3 months to complete my goal - what's the rush?" You need to take a look at life differently - i.e., the glass is half empty vs. half full. You need to play mind games and convince yourself time is running out, which it is.
Convince yourself there will be an emergency and you will fail to accomplish your goals. Tell yourself repeatedly to make it happen quickly before that emergency blindsides you. Take it one step further tell yourself you're going to die in a few years. I did that about 30 years ago. I actually convinced my self (by continuously playing mind games) that my life would end at the age of 40. I pushed and pushed HARD. I wanted to accomplish all of my major goals before my 4oth birthday - I actually accomplished them at the age of 38. Now I'm in my fifties and not slowing down a bit.
Career Minded
Along with playing mind games to train your mind as noted above, you should also do the following if career is one of your priorities:
- Be proactive. Never wait for your boss to tell you what to do. If he has to tell you the next task or perhaps his strategy then you will never be able to fill his shoes. You want to be one step ahead of your boss at all times. Anticipate their every move.
- Treat everyday equally. Consistently motivate yourself. It's highly competitive out there and you need to push yourself harder than ever before. Don't complain or whine to management - if there's a problem only present solutions. Keep your work related goals always at the forefront of your mind. Never place them on the back-burner. Only one person can be promoted to that higher-level position, which just became vacant.
- Be politically savvy. In many organizations its how you play the game. Do the job effectively but always remember to play the politics too! Don't ever let your guard down.
- Excel in EQ skills. EQ is the opposite of IQ, however it is much more important. EQ are your inter-personal skills such as communication and managing relationships, just to name a few. EQ skills will have a greater impact on your life or business success then your IQ ever will.
If you want major results as quickly as possible then live life with a sense of urgency mentality.
