ATTIRE
A bathing suit is a must. You don't want to look out of place, right? Also, bring extra clothes or a cover-up. When it is time to leave, you will want to change from your sandy bathing suit into something more comfortable and if you plan to stay into the evening, a light sweatshirt will help you keep from being chilled.
Flip-flops or sandals are a necessity for anyone traveling to the beach. It is quite a long walk from the car, through the hot sand, to the shoreline and your feet will fry if you are not wearing some type of shoe. Sunglasses are needed for your eyes. Get some that have UV protection so your eyes don't fry as well.
FOOD & DRINK
To save money, bring your own food and drinks instead of buying from the beach snack shacks. Different food items can be snacks like crackers, chips, fresh fruit, pretzels or carrots. If you are planning on staying for a while, you can take cold sandwiches. Almost anything goes for food as long as it is something that will not melt in the sun and heat.
Drinks are very important to keep you from getting dehydrated. Bring an ice chest or cooler and fill it up with sodas, juice boxes and lots of bottled water.
KIDS
Keep them entertained and safe. Make sure they know to swim near a lifeguard and keep your eyes on them at all times. Bring sand toys, especially shovels and pails. Kids love to try and dig a hole to China or bury their parents. Water toys such as boogie boards are popular with the older kids.
OTHER ITEMS
UV rays from the sun are strongest between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Use sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or more, 30+ for kids. Don't forget lib balm as well. Some beach essentials include beach towels or a beach blanket, something to read or music to listen to. A beach chair or umbrella might be good idea. Carry all of it in a large beach bag and have a great time!
