One of my favorite beaded creations is my moonstone teardrop necklace that is accented with amethyst and turquoise blue beads. Amethyst and turquoise are two of my favorite colors and go well with a number of various outfits.
Materials Needed
To make this necklace, you will need: approximately 17-19 inches of 1mm. elastic bead and jewelry cord, a 1 inch long moonstone teardrop bead, 38 ΒΌ inch turquoise glass beads (you can use real turquoise beads if you like), 34 amethyst, purple jade, or amethyst tinted glass beads, and scissors. This necklace fits like a comfortable choker.
Instructions
Take the cord, and slip on the moonstone teardrop bead. Position the bead in the center of the cord, and place three of the turquoise beads on each side of the moonstone bead. Then, slip three amethyst beads next to the third turquoise bead on each side. You will then take two more of the turquoise beads and place them next to the third amethyst bead on each side. The pattern from this point will be adding two amethyst beads and then two turquoise beads on each side of the cord. You will repeat this motif twelve more times on both sides of the cord, and you will know that you have completed your necklace when you have four turquoise beads that will be next to one another when you tie off the cord.
When you have completed the beading pattern, tie the two ends of the cord into a double knot, and test the knot's tightness by gently pulling the two sides of the necklace slightly apart. Cut off any excess cord with the scissors.
Tips on Wearing Your New Work of Art
I often wear this necklace with any purple, turquoise, white, or black top that I have. A black top provides a lovely contrast with the moonstone, and a purple, turquoise, or white shirt simply goes well with the colors present in the necklace.
This necklace makes a beautiful accompaniment to a casual outfit of jeans or capris with a tee or a stylish accessory for more dressy attire, such as a flowing spring or summer dress. The turquoise and amethyst colors along with the amazing glow of the moonstone make this piece of jewelry a must have adornment for your spring and summer wardrobe.
