Lisa Stevens
The Super Bowl is the one time each year millions of people glue themselves to their TV sets to watch two football teams battle in the biggest game of the football season for the Super Bowl Championship. When it comes to snacks and finger food to eat during the big game a favorite in our house is bean dip, from spicy to mild we love it all. The following are recipes for great bean dips to try with chips at your Super Bowl Sunday party.

Hot and Spicy Bean Dip -

This bean dip recipe will come out really large and is best served at a party or for a large crowd. This bean dip will mostly have a bean taste to it, but if you adjust the pepper sauce and add a few more drops it will have a fire hot taste to it. This dip is very spicy.

Ingredients You Will Need

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 cup sour cream
2 (16 ounce) cans refried beans
1/2 (1 ounce) package taco seasoning mix
5 drops hot pepper sauce
2 tablespoons dried parsley
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1 (8 ounce) package shredded Cheddar cheese
1 (8 ounce) package shredded Monterey Jack cheese

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a medium sized bowl blend the cream cheese and sour cream together. Next, mix in the refried beans, the taco seasoning, the hot pepper sauce (however much you chose to add), parsley, green onions, 1/2 the Cheddar cheese and 1/2 the Monterey Jack cheese. Transfer the mixture to an 8x12 inch baking pan. Top the dip off with the remaining Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 - 30 minutes, or until the cheese is slightly browned on top.

7 Layer Bean Dip -

This bean dip is a hit when I make it for Super Bowl parties, it also works great for work parties, potlucks, showers, birthday parties and any other gathering you can think of. It's also very easy to make. If you can't make guacamole from scratch with the fresh avocados you can use store bought guacamole. You can also used refried beans in place of bean dip.

Ingredients You Will Need

3 medium ripe avocados (peeled, cored and mashed) or 1 package of guacamole
2 tablespoons lemon juice (you can also use lime juice if you have that)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 cup sour cream
1/2 or 1 whole package of taco seasoning mix
2 cans bean dip (or refried beans)
2 medium tomatoes, chopped (or 1 can of diced tomatoes)
1 bunch green onion, chopped (you can also use white onions)
1 (3 ounce) can black olives (sliced or chopped)
1 (8 ounce) package shredded cheddar cheese

Directions

Mix the avocados, lemon (or lime) juice, salt and pepper together
Mix the mayonnaise, sour cream and taco seasoning mix

Layer ingredients as follows:

Bottom layer: Bean Dip
Second layer: Avocado mixture
Third layer: Sour cream mixture
Fourth layer: Tomatoes
Fifth layer: Onions
Sixth layer: Olives
Seventh layer: Cheddar Cheese
Top with extra sour cream/olives/salsa if desired

Football Bean Dip -

This dip is great for any Super Bowl party and easy to make. With this recipe you can let it simmer in a slow cooker for about 2 1/2 hours before your guests arrive for best flavor results.

Ingredients You Will Need

1 can (16 ounces) refried beans
1 cup Picante sauce (any brand is fine for this)
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded Monterey Jack cheese
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese
3/4 cup sour cream
1 package (3 ounces) cream cheese, softened
1 Tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground Cumin
1 jar chopped green chiles

Directions

Combine the ingredients in the bowl as follows in a large bowl:
Mix the refried beans with the picante sauce, the shredded Monterey Jack cheese, the shredded cheddar cheese, the sour cream, the entire 3 ounces of cream cheese, the Chili powder, the ground Cumin.

If you want a spicier flavor increase the Chili powder and Cumin or add 5 drops of hot sauce. Stir to combine thoroughly. When you have combined everything prepare the chopped green chiles, but do not add yet.

Transfer the entire contents of the bowl to the slow cooker, or crock pot. Set the cooker on high, cover and simmer for 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Always add the chiles last so the dip will be well mixed. After adding the chilies set the cooker on high and stir occasionally.
