Beat the Ants with Table Salt

Naturally Kill Ants with Table Salt

Alyssa Ast
I have been fighting an upward battle against ants invading my home. After weeks of unsussessful attepmts at riding my home of the pesty invaders, I was about to give up and let them run their course. I tried placeing baby powder on the floor, vacuming daily, pesticides, and cleaning the carpets. None of these worked to free my family from our invaders.

One day, my friend told me she had heard table salt would stop the ants. I was very skeptical but had nothing left to loose. I began throwing table salt around my house thinking I was making a big mess for nothing. Within a few minutes, I realized the ants were starting to die. I could not believe it. The solution to my weeks of torture from these invaders was so simple to solve.

I began lining the walls and doors with salt. I was amazed because for the first time I was able to see where the ants were entering my home. The ants do not die immediatley. In fact, they actually drew more in like the salt was food. But after they crawled through the salt, they began to die. The ants started to run from the salt, even up the walls, so i covered the entire floor in table salt. I let the salt sit on the carpet for about an hour.

I then vacumed the salt off the carpets very well. I went back around the room with the salt and lined the walls, doorways, and windows. It may look kind of funny, but I am willing to have salt on my floors for a while to stop the ants.

The salt is working very well to stop the ants. I still see the occasional ant on the floor, but they die shortly after crossing the salt barrier. My ant sightings have become further between and the ants are becoming scarse.

After dealing with ants for over 3 weeks, I could not believe the table salt was so effective. Plus, it is a much safer way to kill ants when you have small children than using pestisides. I have also heard salt will work for fleas too. My firend told me once I find the ant hill outside, boil water with some salt in it and pour it on the ant hill. It is said to collapse the tunnels of the ant hill and kill them. I heard corn meal works the same as well.
