Beatrix Potter of Peter Rabbit Will Always Be Remembered

Rosa Hayes
I was fortunate enough to get to meet a lot of my favorite authors when they would come to our school in Bakersfield, California, but I never had the pleasure of meeting Beatrix Potter. As I grew I have realized that even after the death of Beatrix Potter, Peter Rabbit is still one of the most popular school age book of all time.

As a parent I often read the Peter Rabbit books to my children. My children and I often read a book each night and discuss it along with the author. In memory of Beatrix Potter we will be reading a Peter Rabbit book and discussing all that she had accomplished.

Beatrix Potter is still a good role model for would-be writers and she is an excellent figure to compare to other authors like Dr. Seuss who wrote books like Horton Hear's a Who. Maybe one day a big producer will take on a Peter Rabbit book and make a film like they did with Dr. Seuss book.

Beatrix Potter will always be remembered in my heart and in my home as the famous author who inspired me to take on a career in writing. Potter is an inspiration and her books sparked something in me as a child that filled my mind with the idea of someday becoming a published author of children's books.

Peter Rabbit wasn't just about a rabbit it was about a rabbit who went through a lot of the childhood experiences that we all had as a child. Potter portrayed the Peter Rabbit character as a young child that captured the imagination of children across the globe.

I remember reading the Peter Rabbit books in school or having them read to be by a teacher during what they called "circle time". It was amazing as we all sat still listening to each word making the Peter Rabbit book come alive. Our imaginations soared into what one could only imagine to be an innocence that each child possesses.

I will never forget Beatrix Potter and as I tuck my children into bed at night I will softly read them the books of Peter Rabbit in hopes that they too will someday spark a dream that will fill their life full of adventure and wonders.
