In beauty school you will learn the basics of cutting hair but also you were learn color theary and how the hair reacts to perming solution.
You will also learn about sanitation and scalp abnormalities. After a few weeks of classroom lecture you will be allowed to go on the floor and take customers as they walk in the door. These are customers who are willing to let students cut their hair for a reduced rate. This is to help the beginner become trained in his career. Haircuts, perms, and colors are done by the student under the guidance of a liscenced instructor.
In deciding if this is a career path for you there are so many things to consider. You will have to work late hours since a great portion of your clients will be working during the day. Also in some salons you are expected to sell services such as haircolor and perms. Some even expect hairdressers to push shampoos. It can greatly influence your salary. Beginning hairdressers similar to other professions must start at the bottom and work their way up. There are some hairdressers who have been cutting hair for a while and make 100,000 dollars a year.
One of the greatest things about being a stylist is that the opportunities are limitless. You can work in a salon as a stylist but you can also work your way up to salon manager. Some become platform artists and travel the country showing hairdressers the latest cuts, perms and colors.
You can also work for the government and become an inspector. The inspector must go to various salons throughout the state and make sure than sanitary conditions are being met. All cutting tools must be sanitized properly in order for the salon to not get written up.
Being a stylist allows you to meet all kinds of people who will require various styling needs. Men usually want something more conservative and short. And most women like being able to wear trendier cuts and colors. But of course this is not always the case.
If you think you would like making people look good and you want to be a part of the beauty industry you can begin your career by signing up at the nearest beauty school.
