Beauty Experiments Worth Trying

Nancy Austin
Hey ladies, wanta try something new or something new to you? An open mind is required. Just be sure to consider your skin's health and level of sensitivity
before trying any beauty products. Most of you already know how much fun this can be. Let's begin with the bath. The other day a visit to Wal-Mart turned up a
great find. Caboodles makes a must have bath bin. For around six bucks you get two 85 oz. tubes filled with bath confetti [star shaped in mixed colors],two 2.7 oz. bath caviar bottles[tiny bath beads], three fizzer balls, three bars of vegetable oil soap, two 1.41 oz. bottles of fizzing salts and two shower puffs or body scrubbers. Just try matching that price at a speciality store. By the way, what is bath confetti? I first found it in heart shapes a couple of weeks before Valentine's Day. You'll feel as though you're filling the bath up with tokens of love or if you choose the star shaped confetti you'll feel as though stars are falling all around you. While you're trying new things pick up a bar of cucumber soap or cucumber bath foam. Yum. Yum. Wash well. Rinse well.

Milk in your bath? It's one of those almost mythical beauty secrets appreciated by women long before our time. They were on to something. Don't you remember mom prescribing good old milk for your skin, hair and nails. Sure she expected you'd drink it, but really talk about a foam bath. The beauty industry has even caught on to the benefits with body milk lotion.

Something else you might want to sneak out of your kitchen will surprise you. Acclaimed fashion model, clothing designer and beauty adviser known as Emme recommends none other than olive oil for extra dry skin. Just pour into your bath, but keep it off your face. Just the other night I found it doesn't grease up your hair even without shampoo if you tie hair up before your bath and rinse out in the shower afterwards. Be silky smooth.

A couple of days ago I ask my husband if he could tell me the difference between "body butter" and any other body lotion. He said the only difference is the name. This is the guy who reads the back of my so called vitamin e oil lotions and tells me how much vitamin e is actually contained in the bottle. This is a neat little trick. Priceless. Under ingredients if vitamin e, powdered milk, etc. is listed two to three ingredients down it's got a bit of the so called main ingredient. If it's listed close to the bottom it's not all it's cracked to be. And this from a man! Yet, it makes perfect sense. Thanks beauty product inspector.

With chemical peels, collagen injections and "surgical" eye lifts, companies such as Avon are making cosmetic surgery a rode less travelled. Of course, you can start anytime, but it's really recommended you start in your twenties before you can actually hear the clock ticking. It's kinda like what you've heard about osteoporosis. Your bones begin to loose density in your early thirties. If you have ever suffered from advanced anorexia in your youth it's possible to develop osteoporosis by age thirty-four. Consider chewable calcium. However, this isn't something you can try for a couple of weeks and expect to see results though you have to start somewhere.

John Frieda broke the mold and made a break through in hair care when they formulated the "brilliant" collection. Whether you're a brilliant brunette, a brilliant blond or a red head they make a shampoo just for you. The best part is that their shampoos and conditioners are formulated for natural or colored treated hair. Wow. I'd been planning on buying some for the last couple of years. My aunt sent two bottles my way and I'm hooked from here on out.

Sometimes the coolest finds come from the least expected sources. My daughter brought home the tastiest lip balm ever in her Valentine's treat bag. She is the proud owner of a key ring containing three DQ flavored lip balms including Strawberry Sundae, Hot Fudge Sundae and Butterscotch. For a real treat try them all at once. Delicious and calorie free; now that's my kind of ice cream. Even better there's no need to keep them in the freezer.

Tired of the knock 'em out the minute you walk through the door perfume of your grandmother's generation. Remember, her warning not to put too much on. She knew best from experience. Today we have body spray. My husband got a kick out of my new essence of sweet pea. What a name. Try saying it out loud to an unexpecting person. Actually, weird name aside it smells out of this world. This is when my husband says it's getting too girly in here for him and leaves the bathroom so the ladies can experiment. On his way out he adds,"smells good."

I know women who swear by long lasting lip stick. There's no doubt in my mind that all day lip colors are essential for many occasions including the work day. In my case, applying lip stick and gloss is an addictive behavior. However, I've worn the all day stuff too. Sometimes you can even find them in a kit with assorted colors. This is always a practical find if you happen to be practical.

One thing I can't get goofy with is eye-shadow. Every woman has her "won't do" and her "must do". My "won't do" is liquid eye make-up. So, try something once and if it doesn't work for you don't try to make it fit just because it's trendy. A well put together woman is fully aware of her own boundaries. Sometimes
you have to experiment to find out and sometimes you just know. You decide.
