Beauty Guide: All-Natural Makeup Removers

Rachel Bogart
A large percentage of women wear makeup everyday. After all, it can help enhance your lips, eyes, and cheeks extremely easily. But by the end of the day, most of us just want it off our face. I know I often resort to a chemical-based makeup remover to help take off all the eyeshadow, eyeliner, blush, lipgloss, mascara, and foundation off my face. Makeup removers can be a good choice, but certainly not if you're looking for a natural product to use. Many makeup removers on the market are filled with unpronounceable chemicals, some of which may me detrimental to your skin, causing rashes, breakouts, and other reactions. While makeup remover is the best way to remove makeup, there are some other natural remedies that will leave your skin spotless and makeup-less within a minute or two.

Water

Yes, this one might be a bit obvious considering we rinse our faces anyway. But water is a great way to remove makeup if you're looking for a 100 percent natural way. In order to take off your makeup with water, I highly suggest rinsing your face with warm water numerous times. You can then use a washcloth and go over specific areas, including your eyelids and cheeks. It may take a bit of elbow grease, but it will certainly do the trick. If you do use waterproof mascara, it may take a bit more time and effort. Though if you do sport waterproof mascara on your lashes, consider taking a shower first and letting warm water run over your face. This will definitely help remove any stubborn residue.

Olive Oil

Since many makeup removers are already oil-based, this one is definitely a no-brainer. You can easily use the olive oil in your kitchen cabinet to remove your makeup. Since it's a very natural product, it's very gentle on your skin. It's great at grabbing makeup particles and removing them from your skin as well. In order to use olive oil as a makeup remover, pour about a teaspoon on a cotton pad or ball. Simply swipe the cotton pad over your skin a few times and you'll see your makeup removed pretty quickly. This works great on mascaras too. The only thing is that if you use olive oil, you should certainly wash your face thoroughly with a deep pore cleanser to remove any excess oil. Even though it's natural, any oil can clog your pores if not washed off.

Baby Oil

Many people overlook baby oil because it's...well...for babies. But baby oil has a ton of practical uses with one of those being removing makeup. Like olive oil, baby oil is generally a very gentle formula that works will on pretty much all skin types. Just use it exactly the same way as mentioned above with the olive oil. And definitely make sure you wash your face after you use it.

Milk

It's absolutely true that you can use milk on your skin to remove makeup. It's extremely gentle and effective when it comes to removing eyeshadow, blush, and any other powder or liquid makeup. Whole milk tends to work the best, followed by 2 percent. This is because these have more lipids in them and it betters attracts makeup particles. Simply pour some on a wash cloth and rub it over your face, focusing on your eyes and cheeks.

Very interesting! I love using olive oil to remove my make-up but I had never heard of milk. I know that milk is very good for softening skin and I'm sure it is great for removing makeup. I will definitely give it a try!
