Beauty is What is on the Inside Vs. The Outside

Everything Has Its Beauty, but Not Everyone Sees It

Matthew Shively
Beauty was described best by Confucius, "everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." When you look at a woman or a man you will immediately see the beauty on the outside. However, I do not believe this is what Confucius was trying to portray. I believe he was talking about the entire person, the inner beauty and the outer.

As I walk through the mall, down the street on the block, through the halls at work I see beautiful people. I am not merely talking about beauty in the sense of looks alone, I am also talking about the beauty in the way they hold themselves so differently, the way they walk, the way they concentrate on what they are doing, and even the beauty in their eyes. It seems as though everyone is always on some sort of mission and I am always trying to figure out maybe what they are thinking about at that moment: bills, what they're going to cook for dinner, what's next on the to do list, etc...

It is immediately the beauty on the outside that someone immediately notices, but if people would just stop and greet or just say hello that is truly the moment you will discover that inner beauty. Honestly, who cares what someone looks like, because sometimes it is the beautiful people on the outside that are not so beautiful on the inside. Outer beauty is not everything, but rather the inner beauty is what makes us who we are.

When I walk up to someone and smile and say hello and they smile back and say hello I know at that moment that my inner beauty has made someone else shine for that brief moment and maybe even for the day. Sometimes it is those small things in life that make life so much more worth while.

So, be beautiful on the outside but also show your true inner beauty because that will help you find ever lasting friendship. Taking all of it away it is important to always remain beautiful on the inside because that is what will make life happy and help you know that you are truly a beautiful person. So based on what Confucious was portraying, you may not feel beautiful on the outside, but that is not what matters. What matters is the beauty you hold within. Have a beautiful day and shine brightly.
