Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole died of respiratory failure on June 26, 1997, at age 38. He was the only non-politician ever to lie in state at the Capitol in Honolulu. On July 12, 1997, thousands gathered in celebration at Makua Bay, Oahu, where his ashes were given to the sea. His cover of Somewhere Over the Rainbow may be found here: www.youtube.com/watch
