Beauty that Lasts

Everything human is wonderfully made by God with various varying features. Everybody would like to be the best of creatures here on the planet earth. Yes, we all must try to be smart in our appearance no matter worth may.

The modern society talks about beauty (exquisiteness, gorgeousness). Women are the first class grade of people in this game while the male counterparts are seriously warming up to compete with them soon.

What exactly do people gain from painting the outside being whereas their hearts are dirty and loaded with malice some like that of the famous queen Jezebel. From the best of my knowledge, I am totally convinced that abuse of the beauty of the flesh has frequently destroyed many souls who worship and partake in worthless things that will never pay anything good at last. To back it up with some reasons, a friend of mine was a good victim of lustful girls who would rather nail him on the cross afterwards. But he was later counseled by a priest and since then has never returned back to the waste bin. Again, a lover boy beheaded a lady (her friend) after severe beating because she refused to marry him.

"Don't be concerned about the outward beauty that depends on jewelery, or beautiful cloth or hair style. Be beautiful inside, in your hearts, with the lasting charm of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious to God. That kind of deep beauty was seen in the saintly women of old, who trusted God and fitted in with their husband's plan.

My interest here is not to look into the endless discussions and arguments that people engage in concerning the use of jewellery and make up. There is a beauty that God is looking for from us. It attracts God to anyone who has it. It is the inner beauty of the hidden person of the heart, the ageless beauty of the gentle, meek and quiet spirit. Such a beauty is not physical. It is inside and is incorruptible. It is not subject to decay. It endures forever. The scripture says, such beauty is of great price, very precious in the sight of God.

Somehow women are generally concerned about their outward look. The desire to look attractive drives many into paying much attention on how to make their hair, what kind of dress or shoes to wear and jewels to put on. This they do at the expense of their spiritual lives. Fashions of hairdo, dressing style, facial appearance, pearls to match have occupied so many women that they have largely been drawn away from God and his standard. Some Christian women do not feel comfortable or satisfied until they have put on their jewels or worn a particular kind of dress or shoe. Some have so much money tied on golden jewels and pearls that they have to employ the service of banks to keep them away from thieves. Other borrow money to buy the jewelry, make fashionable hairstyle or buy that beautiful dress that appeals to them, in order to fit into a certain social class.

It is evident that the wearing of a fine dress, arranging the hair neatly and wearing of gold are generally not outrightly forbidden by the Lord but virtue as they say stands in the middle.
