Beauty Product Review: Clean and Clear Morning Glow Moisturizer

Just Okay

Alexis Valentine
I have been searching for new moisturizers to try out, with it being summer and all. I almost always wear a daily moisturizer with an SPF before I leave the house. I'm all about skin protection having been born and raised in Texas. I've always been a Neutrogena girl and over the years I've pretty much only used Neutrogena moisturizers. I've changed them out as I got older, to different lines, but it had always Neutrogena. I decided, on whim, to try something else just to see if I'd like it. Recently I've been trying Clean and Clear products, and for the most part I've been happy. So I figured I'd try out Clean and Clear's Morning Glow moisturizer to see how I liked it, and how it compared to my Neutrogena moisturizer.

What I liked about Clean and Clear Morning Glow moisturizer was that it's made by a brand that specializes in skin care, specifically the face. Two birds with one stone right? Well, that was my thought anyway. I'll get back to that. What I also liked about this moisturizer was that it's definitely affordable. Costing about $5, which was about $5 less than my Neutrogena moisturizer. Best of all, it has an SPF.

It has a scent to it I've noticed, but it's so mild and sort of refreshing that I didn't mind it. When I first tried this moisturizer it did tingle a bit, but the tingling wasn't bad and it stopped over time. I really liked that Clean and Clear's Morning Glow moisturizer is oil free as well. I would say I have combination skin, closer to normal, but living in a region that's hot an humid I tend to avoid any skin care products that contains oil.

Now for the downside of it all. Although this moisturizer contains an SPF, it's only 15, which for me just wasn't enough. I spend more than thirty minutes, in my car, under the sun just commuting back and forth. Yes, I'm Asian, but I also have pretty fair skin.

Then there were the breakouts as a result of using this product. I have good skin most days. I'm not prone to acne or blemishes, and I've been using an SPF moisturizer since the age of fifteen. Despite being oil free, my skin felt oily around my forehead after a few hours, especially on days when it's very hot and humid. That, as a result has caused me to breakout along those areas. At first I thought it was a fluke, so I kept using it. Eventually I stopped and went back to my old moisturizer and my skin went back to normal. Just out of curiosity I went back to using Clean and Clear's Morning Glow moisturizer again and my breakouts started again. Now, I'm back to permanently using my old moisturizer.

Based on my negative responses to the moisturizer alone, I wouldn't recommend this product. Of course, that's not to say that it wouldn't work for you.
