Beauty Product Review: Zeno Hot Spot

Worth It?

Alexis Valentine
The past month or so I've been having issues with my complexion. I don't know if it's the change in weather or diet, but I was breaking out more than I would in a year. Usually stuff like this goes away after a few days for me, but after about a month I decided to try something else, pay more if I had to. I've heard about the Zeno Hot Spot and from having worked at Walgreens I knew the original worked really well. For about $40 I thought it was worth trying out if it was anything like the original.

I'll start off with the pros to Zeno Hot Spot. The positive is definitely the price. At just $40 it's much more affordable than the original, which sells for around $100. It's also sold in more stores than the original. I like that it's very portable and uses two double AA batteries - nothing to plug in. It comes in two colors now, pink and blue, and it's a very easy product to use; just press to start. It has up to 80 uses and from my experience it works pretty well.

Now for the cons about Zeno Hot Spot. My biggest issue was that it's not reusable. It wasn't mentioned on the box and when I bought it at Wal-Mart there were refill cartridges next to it so I assumed it was reusable. It wasn't until I did a quick search online that I found out it wasn't reusable. After 80 uses, just throw it away and buy a new one. Seems like a lot of waste to me. Currently there's no recycling or trade-in offers. Another thing I didn't like was that this product is very sensitive. I accidentally knocked it over and it wouldn't work properly after that. There's a warranty that comes with it but the warranty clearly states that they won't replace it if it was damaged by misuse or accidents.

The Zeno Hot Spot isn't at all worth it for those with severe and even mild acne because 80 uses won't last for long, and from my experience the more stubborn blemishes require multiple treatments. This product is really more for those who get the occasional pimple, and even then the disclaimer that comes with it says it only works for certain types of blemishes.

Overall, the Zeno Hot Spot worked well in very minor cases of acne, but considering the price I could get the same result with a really good pimple cream. I honestly don't think it's really worth it and have no plans on getting another.
