Kristie Leong M.D.
She was a woman with style, grace, and class. Grace Kelly always appeared dignified and elegant in whatever she wore. The public embraced not only her refined beauty but her dignified poise when she was in the public eye. How many women throughout time have tried to emulate her beauty and class? If you study the style of a woman like Grace Kelly, you can learn much that you can apply to your own beauty regimen. Here's how to look like Grace Kelly:

How to look like Grace Kelly: The art of dressing

Grace Kelly dressed with simple style and flair. She avoided clothing that was overly frilly or showy and instead opted for simple, understated elegance. She frequently played up the simplicity of her clothing with statement making accessories such as large sunglasses, beautiful designer scarves, and stylish hats.

To emulate the style of Grace Kelley, think simple, monochromatic and elegant. Choose a neutral color that's flattering with your skin type and build a wardrobe of high quality, well made pieces around that color. If brown is a flattering shade, invest in a cashmere brown sweater and a pair of brown pants and a skirt that matches. Get a pair of high quality shoes that will match the brown pieces in your wardrobe.

Gradually build your wardrobe by adding pieces that coordinate with your basic brown items. Over time, you can add some interesting accessories to give variability to your wardrobe. It's far more flattering to have a simple, well made clothing items in monochromatic colors than it is to have a closet full of printed, detailed clothing that you'll get tired of quickly.

How to look like Grace Kelly: Choose simple jewelry

One of Grace Kelly's favorite pieces of jewelry was a strand of simple pearls. Pearls are almost universally flattering and elegant and Grace Kelly instinctively knew this. She wore them frequently when she appeared before the camera.

To capture the jewelry elegance of Grace Kelly, invest in some classical jewelry pieces that you can wear for a lifetime. If pearls don't appeal to you, develop a wardrobe of classically elegant gold or silver pieces that are appropriate for any occasion. Even if gold is out of your price range, sterling silver is quite affordable for most people. If you like the beauty of pearls but can't afford the price tag, buy a high quality fresh water pearl necklace instead.

How to look like Grace Kelly: Opt for a simple hairstyle.

Grace Kelly was most frequently photographed wearing her hair in a simple bun. This look showed off her finely chiseled bone structure and beautiful face .In photographs where she was seen with her hair down, her hair was of medium length and cut in a basic, simple blunt cut that flattered her face.

While not everyone is born with the classic bone structure of Grace Kelly, an elegant upswept hair style can look flattering on most people with a few modifications. If this look is too harsh, pull your hair into a looser bun with some tendrils hanging down to soften your face. Add some pretty hair accessories to add interest to your hair and face .This look is appropriate for almost any occasion and reinforces the fact that you have style and elegance.

How to look like Grace Kelly: Less makeup is sometimes better.

Grace Kelly never looked overly made up in her photographs, although with a face like that you don't need much makeup! Her eyebrows were thick and natural without the overly plucked look that many women choose. There's no doubt that Grace Kelly did have the expertise of knowledgeable makeup artists to give her face the "natural" look, but she managed to avoided looking too contrived in most public photographs which appealed to her adoring fans.

The secret again to emulating Grace Kelly's style is to choose flattering shades of makeup and learn how to apply them with a light touch. Instead of plucking your eyebrows until they're thin and harsh, strive for a slightly fuller look to your eyebrows to give your eyes definition. If your eyebrows are too light, learn how to discretely add a touch of color using a small amount of eyeshadow. Grace Kelly had beautiful cheekbones. Learn how to create the illusion of cheekbones using a small amount of darker blush in the hollows of your cheeks.

If you're not comfortable choosing and applying makeup, make an appointment at a department store cosmetic counter for free instruction. Always remember to take scrupulous care of your skin and wear a daily sunscreen so you don't require as much makeup to look good.

Grace Kelly may have been the epitome of style and grace in her time, but there's no reason why you can't exude her elegance and class. Think simple and understated and you'll have captured the Grace Kelly style.

I love Grace Kelly's style. Sophisticated and elegant, yet not too "loud" in her style. :)
