Beauty Tips for Your Night Out

Special Care for an Extra Hot Look

Nancy Austin
Feeling worn out and dripped dried? Here's a few favorite beauty tips from a Libra. Big event coming up? The night before give yourself a facial using a clay mask made by Freeman, ideal for firming. If your face appears tired the mask will liven your skin up. Highly recommended, a peeling mask for purposes of exfollation. My adolescent acne lasted until age eighteen, at which time I began using liquid astringents such as Witch Hazel. So, your first step in any make-up routine is clean. You want to look brand new for your night out on the town. Fresh faces draw people in.

Begin getting ready at least two hours before going out, even if you spend thirty minutes of that time resting. Surely, you can't always allott that long, but when possible patience ensures you'll complete your make-over carefully. The following, when need be, can be accomplished in as little as an hour. Let's begin with a palm reading. Your hands say a lot about you. I'm not comfortable in public if my polish is chipping. Messy nails can ruin even the best out fit. Too, don't forget properly done, your nails are apart of your well made make-up. Be sure all the polish is removed before going to the next step in order to obtain a smooth finish. Though removing your cuticles may make your nails appear longer, never cut them off. This is generally damaging and may make your cuticle area appear rough and wounded. Instid try pulling them down just a bit with a wooden cuticle pencil. A smidget of cuticle lotion or hand lotion will soften them for you. The best emery board is the kind you can use over and over, made of hard metal, silver in color. They're much stronger for sanding down wayward nails and creating attractive curves. Consider the outing before painting. For night clubs, parties and holiday celebrations such as New Year's Eve or July Fourth, odd/festive colors are perfectly accepetable. Ideas include: red or blue for July Fourth, red or green for Christmas, blue/yellow/orange/ white/ or black for Halloweeen. Once dry, if you have enough minutes left on the clock, top with a glitter polish made specifically for nails. Remember, odd colors are playful and not always thought of as punk, depending on the circumstances. Red is hot and classic. Mauve is always safe though pretty. Light colors are innocent and sweet. Darker colors are forever seductive. Paint each hand once before adding the next coat and be sure not to glob it on. Keep polish stored in a cool, dry place. Lighter colors require more coating than darker choices to give a finished look. Also, a clear coat once all has dried is an option for shine. Sally Hansen makes the most effective nail hardener which really does work and is the best defense against braking. Love My Nails makes a decent line of nail polishs. New York is another inexpensive alternative. Your nails need to be dry completely before you do anything else.

Taking a shower once your nails have dried will wash away the foul smell most if not all polishes and removers disperse. If you've done a smooth job your polish will stay on provided it's dried. Now, on to the most important part of getting ready. A clean body is an attractive body. If you have sensitive skin purchase a cleanser made for sensitive skin. Exfollate first so that when you get out of the shower you're truly clean. Pay close attention to areas such as the back and sides of the kneck where muck tends to stick due to humidity. Also, if you're wearing open toed shoes or no socks such as for a summer dress, exfollate the sides of your ankles, where dirt also collects. You may wish to try a peppermint foot soak or scrub if your feet need extra treatment. Unless you're wearing a top cut low in the back no one's going to see your back. Yet, how you feel is as important as how you look. My back itches if I fall behind on my exfollation. I don't recommend those cute scrub brushes, bath scrungies or sponges, because they just sit around in the bathroom gathering germs. Learn to stretch or take a shower with your partner.

As far as hair goes clean is your number one goal and don't skimp out on conditioning. Scratching isn't washing. Concentrate on your scalp, top to bottom, rubbing in circular motions. The scalp houses the root from which hair grows. Washing won't do any good if you don't rinse well. Most hair dressers aren't big on horse shampoo. Sauve, White Rain, and V05 are my favorites. My aunt has used a super leave in conditioner called Infusion 23 for fifteen years or more.

Be sure to take care of your face. Soap isn't at the top if the list. A gentle cleanser made especially for facial care is your best bet. Products containing peroxide are often harmful to the skin over all. If acne is a concern my sugggestion would be applying a product such as stridex directly to the pimple after your shower. Of course, start preparing your face a week in advance if problem skin is an issue. After you've had your shower dry off well especially in the yeast sensitive areas.Yeast has actually become classified as a disease in itself, one which can cause a lot of turmoil to your body.

Don't forget to brush those teeth. Floss and gargle with a heavy duty mouth wash. In social situations you may find yourself face to face with a potential friend, mate or future business colleague. You're never in too big of a hurry to take care of your dental hygiene. If you're interested in whitening, don't go for the cheap stuff. I'm all for saving money, but the higher quality the whitener the better off you are. Lesser grade whiteners are more likely to cause smudging and clumping.Too please, refrain from over whitening. This can make a mess as well. Though quality products exist on the market you may want to get a professional to do your whitening. In addittion to to all the above, stash some mints in your purse, particularly if you'll be eating spicey food or drinking alcohol.

Now, that you're clean, put your face on. Start with foundation. This is another one you're not likely to get at the dollar store. A good foundation will cost at least four dollars. Cover Girl makes an economically wise foundation. Look on the back and make certain the product says it won't clog pores. Now a days manufacturers even offer foundations which will improve skin. You want to match your skin color as close as possible. You don't want it too dark or too light for you. Dab a little on your chin, a tiny spot on your nose, a small to moderate amount on both cheeks and forehead. Don't avoid your cheek bones or the sides of your face. Rub it all in thouroughly. Wipe excess off with a clean make-up sponge.

I read somewhere years ago that the eyes have it as far as bringing people to you is concerned. The bottom lid comes first. Cover them well so your eyes appear larger, concentrating on the area closest to the lashes. The tops should always be lighter than the bottom lids. Blending is the key to preventing a job overdone. Brown eyes equal earth tones to bring the eyes out. For blue think green, pink, rose, and maybe a light shade of retro blue. Eye shadows remininiscent of rouge can be chick, if applied carefully though you're looking at make-up remover before the evening is over if you're not very cautious. Softer colors are comfortable and easy going. Darker colors are mysterious and sexy. Eye liner is meant to intensify your gaze. The darker, the more intense. Stay away from liquid liner, because you want a clean look. Mascara is another method designed to increase eye contact. It's best known for creating the illusion of longer lashes. With mascara you run the risk of making a mess. Water proof is key. Use an eye lash brush to prevent over usage. The cleanest make-up is without mascara or eye liner. The most dramatic is with both of the two. On to the cheeks. Make yourself blush only slightly. Avoid clown colors such as orange. Don't over do it. Keep in mind too much make-up is a waste of a pretty face.

If you're in a hurry just brush your hair, making sure there aren't any tangles, not a single one. Spray your with hair spray or liquid gel. Wild hair used to be in, but not anymore unless you just happen to like it. Note, you might want to get a trim before the big night. PErms or dye the night before an important event or first date aren't a sound choice, because your hair may stink afterwards. A curling iron is still a relatively easy way to pump up the volume though hot rollers produce less damage to sensitive strands. Curling irons are quicker than hot rollers. You have to wear the rods. Let the iron heat up for at least ten minutes, five if you're running late in which case you might want to go straight. Crimping is so twenty years ago. You can always tie your hair up in an old fashioned bun. This style is an example of classic beauty, going well with "the little black dress". Spray the sides of your hair to keep them in place as well as spritzing the bun. Use a hair tie that matches your out fit. Choose a simple pony tail holder rather than a fancy, adorned one for better placement. Steer away from sporty ponty tail holders for evening wear. If your bangs are long you can allow them to hang down as long as you tame them away from your eyes. Though I believe in hair spray to maintain neatness, just use a little bit in each section as you try to keep your strands in line. Too much will appear fake, stiff and flaky. The pump bottles are safest for the environment. Be beautiful and wise. Grown women can get away with a low pony tail or braiding is optional. You can also curl your tail. Two pony tails on each side only work for women under twenty two. Half up half down is professional and girlish without being childish. Look back over pictures of yourself. How does your hair look best? Remember, your goal is to keep it in place.

Temporary tattoos are edgy and fun. You can find them at drug stores, dollar stores and just about anywhere cosmetics are sold. They're easy to apply and remove. No worries about them bleeding onto your clothes as long as you let them dry, which doesn't take long. They come right off in the shower or bath. Body or hair glitter is another hip idea.

Your clothes should be in excellent condition for special occassions. Dry cleaned or washed. You should be able to find at home dry cleaning bags you can put in the washer. Dry clean and iron the day/night before. Suede will get ruined if it's raining or wet outside. Leather out lasts the weather. Short women, wear skirts knee length or a little lower. Too long and you'll be swallowed. Skirts shouldn't show your underware. Men prefer classy women. Show your cleavage off sparingly, but don't take away from the imagination. Some pull overs were made to be tight and you can usually tell if this is the case. If it's not, it'll be apparent to everyone. A mature woman wants to be noticed as a whole, not as a walking bill board for implants even if she happens to have implants. The woman sitting across the table doesn't want to see your breasts. True glamour has everything in common with being practical. Who wants to dance with a woman who can barely walk in her too tight shoes? Hills are off the wall sexy, but they're not always a novice idea for everyone. Carry an extra pair of shoes in the car if you're not sure the ones "you want to wear" will last all night. A pair of stockings tucked in a corner pocket of your purse might come in handy if you get a snag. Please, don't wear socks or stockings with sandels. I don't care who said it's o.k. This isn't alright unless you're five. Even though Oprah has admitted to doing it, don't cut holes in the toes of your panty hose. Don't cut your panty hose off at the hip to make knee highs. They're thirty-five cents at Wal-Mart. Have fun! Dress with the best interest of your health in mind. Too tight, no way. I'm not saying you can't go out on a limb and show your super model body off. Just be sure you're wearing something that's made to fit, not something you've squeezed into. Before you throw the book at me, I've made a few or more of these mistakes in the past. That's how I know the truth about dressing smart. Knock 'em dead!
