Beauty Tips for Women

Pieces of this article were published first in either The Examiner while questions and answers were adapted from my work on The Beauty Biz website.

My readers on a British beauty site I work with are always asking for new beauty tips. They want to know what to do on a bad hair day. They want ideas for keeping their lipstick in place until we are ready to remove it. They desire a method for lessening the bags under the eyes after a night of no sleep.

Of course that isn't everything that women want to know. They inevitably want to know it all! Unfortunately, no one can cover all of the requested knowledge in a single article. Therefore, this will become a beauty series in which I hope to address common tips that should be helpful to all women.

Problem #1: The heat is frizzing my hair.

You may have the answer to this problem already in your handbag - - lip balm. Run your fingers along the balm surface to coat them with the wax. Next, use your fingers to smooth away the frizz of your tresses and put your coif back into place.

Problem #2: I'm tired of having to reapply my lipstick. Is there anything I can do to extend it?

One obvious answer is to switch to one of the many new "stay on" lip colors available in the market today. But if you already have a lip color that you like, you can still use it too.

To extend any lip color, smooth a bit of foundation over the lips before applying the color. Let the foundation dry thoroughly. Then apply a lip liner in the same or a slightly darker shade of the chosen color. Be sure to color in the entire lip area. Next, brush on a small amount of powder. Finally, add your lip color.

The color will last much longer than normal. On most women it will last well into a busy day or even into the night.

Problem #3: I haven't slept well in days and my eyes are showing the abuse. What do I do?

While cucumbers do the job for some, they don't work for everyone. Instead try something new. After making your cup of tea, put the teabag inside of a zip lock bag and refrigerate it. Once you have two bags to work with you are ready to go.

Lay down for about 15 to 30 minutes, placing the cool teabags over the eyes as you rest. The tannin inside the tea is well known for its ability to help diminish the needless bags underneath the eyes.

Problem #4: I'm trying to lose weight but I'm always hungry especially in the morning.

Instead of reaching for that high calorie muffin or bagel, keep whole wheat bread or English muffins on hand. Whole grains are rich in fiber and help to give you a full feeling with less food intake. To make sure you don't over indulge in a good thing, however, chew a piece of sugar free gum about 15 minutes prior to eating. It will help to curb your appetite. Pull the gum out anytime during the day when you are "tempted" to break your diet.

Problem #5: I just bought a new pair of boots but they hurt my feet. How do I break them in properly?

Use alcohol to coat the inside areas of the boot that make your feet sore. While the boots are still damp from the liquid put them on. The alcohol will make the leather soft so that it will conform to your foot. You may need to repeat the process two or three times, but eventually you'll have a pair of boots that fit you like a glove.

No matter the beauty problem, chances are good there is a solution to make it disappear. All it takes is a bit of research and a willingness to try new things.
