Beauty Tips for Women Over 50

Jessica Mousseau
Most women over 50 probably can't rely on the clothes that fit them when they were younger doing so now, and the same holds true for beauty regimens. Drying skin, thinning hair, and other changes may make it necessary for a woman to change her beauty routine.

Changing how you do something, however, doesn't mean that you can't or won't get the same results as you did from your old beauty regimen. In fact, these beauty tips may actually improve the way you look. And, one of them can protect your health.

1. Use sun screen every day. This is the most important of all the beauty tips listed. Even if you grew up in a time when women did not use sun screen as a general rule, it still isn't too late to start. Your skin will still appreciate the protection you are giving it.

And, with so many products now including sun screen, it's not hard to do that. Simply look for those that list a sun protection ingredient and the amount of sun protection they provide on the label.

2. Cleanse your face every day, even if you don't wear make-up. Even though the second tip in this article talks about perhaps having to change your shower or bath routine, facial cleansing won't change. You should cleanse your face at least once a day, and twice if you feel it needs it or if you have worn make-up. If you use a gentle, moisturizing cleanser, it won't hurt to add a twice-a-day facial cleansing to your new crop of beauty tips.

3. Decide how often you need to shower by observing how your skin feels and the amount of body odor you have (or don't have, as the case may be.) As women age, it is not unusual for them to realize that they can skip taking an "all-over" bath every day. For many women, simply cleaning the face and genital area, along with the underarm area if there has been excessive sweating may all that is necessary on some days.

If you wish, you can work out a schedule of bathing all over one day, then "washing up" the next, then bathing the next day, and so forth. Or, if you see that all-over bathing is only necessary twice a week, you can choose which two days you will do that.

4. Let your hair tell you how often it needs washing. Like your skin, your hair may not become dirty as often, even if you use a lot of product. A good brushing out every night (if you wet and style your hair every day), with a shampooing on the

days that you notice your hair becoming oily or starting to feel dirty, may be all you need.

5. Use moisturizer every day. As we age, our skin becomes drier, especially during and after menopause. Using a moisturizer every day will help make your skin feel more comfortable. Choose one with a sun protectant included, and you're helping your skin even more.
