Beauty trends in Phoenix, Arizona

No matter where you go in the world, you'll find that each city has its own set of beauty trends unique to their people. New York is known for its colorful fashion sense and somewhat non-traditional hair or makeup styles. Los Angeles' beauty trends are, fittingly, a bit more Hollywood.

I recently relocated to Phoenix, Arizona where it is hotter than, dare I say, Hades. As a follower of beauty trends and as someone who appreciates fashion and style, I realized that my long-sleeve, flowy cardigans and heavy jeans had to be replaced with something a bit more breathable. In addition to that, I discovered there are beauty trends specific to this city and that it was high time I jumped on board if I wanted to blend in.

Hair: Short Hair or Up Do
Long hair is often kept up during the hot daylight hours in Phoenix. This has giving all new meaning to the word "up do." Very high pony tails and buns are popular among women. In fact, the higher hair is off the neck, the better. A surprising amount of men sport almost-buzz cuts a la Jack Shephard of Lost.

Lips: Lots of Color
Perhaps it's the fact that all that dry, arid sand is so bland, but color on the lips is a hit in Phoenix. Bold shades like orange, red and pink are all the rage. The best part is that these hues can be spotted throughout the daytime and are not just reserved for nighttime party hours.

Nails: Perfectly Manicured French Tip
You can't go wrong with the classic, french tip in Phoenix. In fact, most women prefer the style here. It goes well with any outfit and looks ultra polished and sophisticated. This style is most commonly seen on natural nails instead of acrylics and is coated with lots of high-shine, clear polish.

Eyes: Dark Eyes
If there's one beauty staple in every Phoenix women's makeup bag, it's mascara. Lots of mascara. After all, the bigger and bolder your lashes are, the better off you'll be when it comes to beauty in the land of cacti. Faux lashes are popular here and make their debut mostly in the evening hours. Throughout the day, though, women sport multiple layers of mascara and apply eyeliner with a heavy hand.

One last bit of advice: The key to staying fashionable in this ultra hot city is to try and remain as cool as possible, lest you find yourself parched and overheated. Oh, and the next time you're visiting, don't forget to bring your favorite sunglasses! The sun can be ferocious.
