The best thing to do with a beaver is keep the beaver in a large kennel or cage outdoors. You will need a cage that is at least ten feet by ten feet. You should place a lot of wood in the cage for your beaver to keep itself amused. You can bring the beaver indoors, but do not leave it alone unattended or you will end up with a few problems. When you leave for the day, remember to place the beaver back into the kennel or cage.
Beavers have a very strict diet which you will work hard to obtain. They do not eat meat and they will most likely not eat vegetables or fruits on an every day basis. They eat things such as roots and some types of tree bark, much like chipmunks. It can be a problem finding food for a pet beaver to eat. You might want to look on-line for a website that is strictly dedicated to pet beavers and see what the owners feed their pets. Don't just throw some wood in the cage and expect the beaver to eat like it would in the wild.
Beavers are incredibly smart animals. They are very helpful in the wild. When they build dams, the water back ups and insects, bugs and larger animals drink this water and feed on what is in the water. Beavers are obsessed with builds dams and they are very good at it. They can build a dam that is about 20 feet long in a matter of a couple days. You can imagine what a beaver would do to your home if left alone for a couple of days.
You need to place a lot of wood in the beavers cage to keep it amused and to help with grinding down the beavers teeth. The teeth never stop growing and if they get too large it will become uncomfortable for them to eat and they will stop eating all together. If this happens a vet may or may not be able to grind down the teeth depending on how bad they have gotten.

a Building Permit !! (At least, not within a week)
My wife has a beaver, but she won't let me play with it.
I have 4 pet beavers and I love them. I bought an empty wooded lot and let them go for about a week. They built me a 3,000 sq ft 4 bedroom cabin. I saved a fortune in contractor labor.
I just obtained a new pet which is a first for me. I've had some neat pets but this is another first for me. I picked up a young beaver from the middle of the highway.
I didn't know what to do but I grabbed it's tail and it didn't try to bite me. So, I picked up by the tail and it worked. I've now picked it up and it has not tried to bite me. I put it in an outside fenced pet area. I have a window at the floor below a picture wondow so I can put my pet in and out. I've been google searching all the information I can and that's I found you. I wonder if there's anyone else out there that has one. What I've read so far is that they are wonderful pets and will follow you like a dog or cat. My baby armidillo did.
It did seem to like me rubbing it. The other thing I liked reading about them is that they are very intelligent. Also, they love attention. The next website I'm lookin at is "what to name your pet beaver".
Hope to hear back
is it legal in Canada?
If you had a pond, could the beavers live there and come out to play when you are home?
