Because of You

Poem About Sexual Abuse and Trauma

Charisse Van Horn

Was it fine, was it okay

For you to have your way

For you to have your way

Oh man of authority, privilege and pride

Don't you know

The child died

When you reached down

With tainted arrows

Poking and prodding

For you exploring

And tormented

The mind of one

Pure and innocent

Just so you

Could have

Your

Way

Just so you could have your way

And now the many years have past

As you've destroyed

All in your path

Like trampled

Leaves

Blowing

Into oblivion

Disappearing into forgetfulness

Just so you could have your way

Just so you could have your way

Oh man of authority, privilege and pride

Don't you know

On that night

She died

She died to self

She died to dreams

She died to visions

Yet unseen

She died to future

She died to love

She died to escape

The torturous one

Was it alright?

Was it okay?

Just for you to have your way?

Oh man of authority, privilege and pride

Because of you

Because of you
