Become a Contestant on Bravo's Top Chef

Rebecca White-Glanders
Bravo's Top Chef show is a mouth-watering combination of gourmet food and feisty competition. If you're a chef or aspiring chef yourself, you probably find the dynamics of the show exciting. Maybe you think your culinary abilities could top the contestants on the show. If you think you'd like to compete on Bravo's Top Chef, here's how you go about getting in.

Although the Season 5 Top Chef casting has already been determined (with auditions held in May 2008), it's not too early to polish your skills for a chance at the next generation of culinary contestants. With Season 6 interviews likely to take place in Spring 2009, aspiring Top Chef contestants can take notes and prepare in advance with these great tips.

Check The "Bravo Casting" Website Regularly

When it comes to getting cast on a hit show like Bravo's Top Chef, you don't want to miss a thing. Their "Bravo Casting" page keeps you updated with everything aspiring chefs need to know to get their feet in the door. From Top Chef application templates to tips on creating the perfect audition video, this official Bravo site will give you real, reliable information to get you started.

Complete The Perfect Application

To be considered for a place in the Top Chef cast, you will have to complete an application. Although the Season 6 application is not yet available, it will probably first appear on the "Bravo Casting" page. So, what exactly are they looking for when they scan Top Chef applications?

Although Bravo wants a brief description of your culinary job, they also want to cast contestants with character. So, don't be afraid to let them know what makes you unique. What are your hobbies and passions? What makes you different from the hundred (or thousand) of other applicants who want to cook on the show? They want contestants who can not only cook up a storm, but can light up the Top Chef kitchens with their edgy or effusive personalities.

Show Up For Bravo's Open Casting Call

Although you can apply with the application and an audition video, showing up for their open casting call gives you a chance to really impress them with your skills and charisma. Since the Season 5 open casting call happened in May, start looking for a date and time on the "Bravo Casting" page in early 2009. If at all possible, make plans to be there. It could make the difference between a place on the show, and a place on your couch.
