The best desk in the world has got to be the cockpit. That would make the best job out there a pilot. Seeing those big machines as kids made us want to become a pilot and fly them ourselves when we grew up. Following these instructions, you can be on your way to becoming the pilot you have always dreamed of being.
FlightSchool
To begin the course of becoming a pilot, you first need to locate in a flight school in your area. Once you have enrolled in school, you will begin working with a flight instructor to get your pilot certificate. The flying times vary, but the average flying time it takes to get your pilot license is around 50 hours.
Also upon enrolling in flight school, you will need to obtain a medical certificate from the FAA. Applying for the First Class certificate instead of a standard certificate is more intensive, but will let you know right off if you are not qualified to become a pilot.
When choosing a flight school talk to students; both past and present to obtain feedback on the type of training they receive and how what they learned was able to help them find a job as a pilot upon completion.
Finish Your Degree
If you have college credit hours and are just a few classes shy of getting your associate's degree, finish school. When looking for a pilot to fly their planes, many airlines will choose a pilot who has received a college education.
Continuing Education
Once you have earned your private pilot certificate, you can upgrade. Upgrading your certificate will demonstrate to airlines that you have taken the necessary steps to learn all you can to be the best pilot for them to hire. Also, having an instrument rating or a commercial certificate, or even getting your own flight instruction certificate will allow you to pilot many different types of aircrafts.
Take to the Sky
Once you have received the certificates you feel qualify you to be the type of pilot you want to be, you are ready to fly. There are several types of pilot positions available. If you want to be a pilot for a large airline, understand that these types of positions require up to and beyond 3,000 total pilot hours, and also specific certification for turbine and jet powered aircraft. If you are ready to fly, but haven't built up the hours or certifications for this type of pilot position, here are a few examples of the type of pilot you could be:
• Flight Instructor
• Cargo Pilot
• Military Pilot
• Agriculture Pilot
These ways are just a few, the list of positions for a pilot are endless.
During the course of your pilot career you will always be learning and will always be required to keep your medical certificate up to date. Use the information you learn to mold you into the type of pilot you want to be. If you don't use the knowledge you have been given as a pilot, you stand the chance of being replaced or let go.
Now that you have become a pilot and you have the best "desk" in the world, use your continuing education to build your career into the life long dream you had as a child. No matter what type of plane you pilot, you will always have the best view from your window.
