One of the main thing that happen especially in the teen years is allowing your children to learn from there mistakes. It is only natural for a parent to not wan there child to make any mistakes and parents will try to avoid this at any cost, but this may not be what your child needs. You as a parent is very right to try to prevent any mistakes that could in up causing your child harm like STD's and teen pregnancy. Note that allowing your children to learn from there mistakes instills a lesson better then any explanation ever could.
With American's being high rise for becoming overweight you never should give rewards that are junk foods. A lot of parents are guilty of this such if you stop crying you will get some ice cream or you have been a good little helper today so you will get a Happy meal. Instill in your children at a young age good eating habits. It will be in best interest for you and your child not to comfort them with comfort foods, this could be a accident waiting to happen.
If you have more then one child the thing that you never want to do is compare. be careful as to the words you use to your children to describe them. This can be hurtful to children when being compared to there siblings in a negative and even sometimes not only negative in a positive manner as well. Never use words that refer to your child like the smart one, the bad one, the worst-some one, the pretty one, the rude one all of these type words can be nagging to the other siblings and can lead to other problems.
Last but not less try to always lead by example your children most often times go by what you do and not what you say. If you don't want your child using bad words then you practice on not using bad words in there presents. If you drink alcohol in moderation let them know when they reach the legal limits that they could also in moderation. Even the smaller things that you may do like not wearing your seat belts children pay attention to all of this. So to be better you have to for one better yourself, lead your children in the correct direction, allow them to learn from there own mistakes sometimes and show major love to all of them unconditionally. Note that no child or parent is never going to be perfect, but trying to be is a start.
